Hi everyone,
I am looking at a 68 Valiant Signet 4 door. It has a 318, 904 and 7.25 rear.
Owner refreshed gaskets about a year ago, replaced a lifter. Now has another lifter which he says is sunk. I am concerned about the lifters issue, and the potential for needing a rebuild? But honestly my knowledge is limited- Also I know the reputation of the 7.25, but would it stop you from buying? The body is pretty straight and rust free only one hole in pass floor and needs lower quarter patch. He is asking just under $3000, I am just looking to clean it up, few minor upgrades and cruise. What are your thoughts?
Thanks

I used to laugh at the guys asking over $2500 for a 4 door Valiant or Dart....Then I saw more of them, and more of them...
Then it occurred to me that MAYBE not everyone wants the same thing!
The engine is the easiest thing to deal with because a 318 from a 1967 can be easily replaced with a 318 from something as new as a 90s truck or van.
The hard to find stuff is what is important, especially the stuff that is not being reproduced. 4 door cars will probably never get new door skins, interior door panels rear windows or anything 4 door specific. Make sure any car you buy has the hard to find parts.
Some people think they will save money by buying a stripped out car and slowly acquiring the missing parts. You will not save anything.

Lifters are pretty easy to replace and the rear is fine for a driver just don't beat on it. The rust issue sound minor also. Check that you can get the patch. To me that car is worth around 2500 if the interior is good.

I'd try to get that car for $2500 tops, hopefully cheaper. Can you do the work to sort out the lifter problem? If not, then walk.

I have not dealt with them before, but seemed like I could handle, was just concerned if I would need to replace cam, timing set etc... by the time I was done would have to rebuild whole top end
