I've noticed this comes up quite a bit, someone is selling something on the forum and requests to be paid through PayPal with funds marked as "friends and family"
Then, when the seller turns out to be a scammer the buyer has no recourse
Of course, this is just chicken coming home to roost for the buyer going along and lying about it save a buck

So I was thinking, obviously we can not impose morality on our members, but perhaps we could make it a "rule" that you are not allowed to ask buyers (or sellers, for that matter) to lie, and Mark it as "family and friends"

I don't know how we would impose this, but it could be as simple as adding a warning to the 9 second screen we all read before posting a for sale or want add

Just thinking out loud here, trying to make this a better place for all of us

I always ask for a dollar as goods and services so I can print the shipping out and the rest as friends to save everyone the fees. Guess I am guilty!

well the way i see it, im paying for a service they are providing, just seems right
on top of that, 3 % , thats less then 5 dollars on 90% of all purchases here (im guessing)

I hear you. I have had some WTF questions also. I do it on the expensive stuff over 300 myself. There are some scammers out there for sure. I personally never had a issue with any of the FXXO sites personally. Usually a good group of guys.

If I am buying from a member I don't know I will add a few dollars to the total cost to cover the fee, even if the seller asks me to mark it friends and family.

There are a lot of people who I send as friends and family because they are friends so I an really not lying. I bought a car recently and sent it friends and family, Because the seller is someone I dealt with before and i knew he is good on the deal and some could call it a friendship.

So no problem, right

I agree that paypal is very convenient and don't mind paying the fee at all. even if I'm the seller. But aren't we all friends and family here ? LOL (well mostly)

Well, let me ad my 2 cents to this topic.
When i get a serious buyer for some of my brake and suspension parts, and it comes time to give them a dollar quote for parts and the shipping, i figure everything out for them if they want to pay me thru Pay Pal, Family or Friends, or Goods and Services.
I leave it up to them, how they want to put the payment into my account.
Be honest with you, the great majority pay me Family or Friends.
Guess i have a decent enough reputation over the internet for buyers to save some money.

i'll probably get burned sometime..... I've bought a lot through this site using "friends and family". Never a bad experience ….. yet! LOL.... I rarely get feedback, but I've done a lot more than my 10 shown. :)

maybe im overthinking it

and i understand a lot of us "know" one another (of the six people in this conversation, i recognize all of em, and i even know some actual names)
so, this isnt so much about protecting us from us, but to protect us from those who are not...established members

I give the buyer the choice...we have had more threads on this topic....its called "BUYERS INSURANCE" PAYPAL even states it....

I avoid that and fork over the 3% paypal tax for Piece of Mind.

So pay the 3% extra maybe, so I dont have to "lie" about it....jesus h christ already over this...wheres the fuckin horse we can beat again....and again....AND AGAIN

I think muscles in one of the horse's leg flinched so they started beating him again!!!

yeah, i figured it would be hard to inforce, but not to inform, and that might prevent some of this

I include the 3% in my price.

I won't even consider buying from someone wanting a 4% paypal fee. They are just price gouging.

Ya, i'm sure you could do it that way, but i'm one of the people that keep shipping, packaging, payment, fees totally separate from the part price.
That my business practice, and preference, in selling items on the internet.
So what's wrong with that?
Then why would you consider that "price gouging"?
Guess your gonna be missing out on parts from time to time, but if that's your preference, so be it, nobody is going to loose any sleep over it.
