im putting a magnum in a 70 swinger with headers. Can you use the stock filter location and just buy off the shelf filter? Or do I need to add the 90deg filter adaptor? Getting ready to order some stuff and just thought about that.

Thanks in advance

I meant brand. I run a set of dougs on a dart with a magnum 5.2, and use the regular magnum filter. WIX 1085

What brand of headers? It matters. I used a 90 degree adapter and fought leaks. I eventually removed it and reinstalled the filter plate and stud and used a regular magnum filter. I have a '70 dart with a 5.9 and Doug's headers.

The smallest Mopar filter is Mopar M 409. Or 3614 That covers STP ,Super Tech, Fram, the 3600 is for a Turbo PT Cruiser that is longer than the 3614 but diameter is the same. They are small but we change our oil more often than most guys with daily drivers. My 2 cents.

I have TTI headers, use a 90* filter adapter(no leaks), run a Jomar 100% No-Bypass oil filter and once it's broken-in I use Royal Purple oil. The Jomar is a full-sized (PH8A style filter).

I do use a short length of aluminum foil to keep the oil off my headers when changing it.

I have 5.9L in duster w TTI headers and could not get standard filter out past trans tube and header pipes. I use smaller diam filter that will slide thru there. Wix 51515 or napa 1515. It is smaller diam but longer height so same media area as 1068.

The LA and Magnum filters are the same base but different lengths by application. A Wix for a LA #50515 is 5.197" long and a #51085 for a MAgnum is 3.836" long, same 3/4"x16 thread and base.

If you want to seize your motor, i'd recommend fram, if you want it to outlive your great great grand kids, motorcraft

Jomar is the only filter that doesn't bypass ANY oil from filtration. ALL others begin to bypass unfiltered oil at just over 8 psi pressure differential through the filter. Period.

Bet we can get a simple oil filter post up over 50 responses. I say Fram. Because it matches my motor color. Duh!

The Fram PH43 is the short version of the PH16. It works fine in my 69 Barracuda with a 340 and long tube headers and no 90 degree adapter. I have used Fram for years with no problems.
