Battery cables -where does the negative go?

Quick Question:

On a 66 Barracuda with a V-8, where was the factory negative cable bolted to?

Yes, I realize the "Battery" LOL! Where does the "OTHER" side get bolted to - a picture would be great.

My 67 dart 273 is bolted the same as rusty's. BUT the engine has been out once, so cant say if it is in the 100% stock location

That one's not mine. I just blew up the picture in the previous post and highlighted to make it more visible.
 
Okay folks- I went to my 66 Barracuda “s”
Parts car for the correct bolt to mount it to the head... there’s no bolt, not even drilled for a bolt. It’s under the spring return for the carb. I can bolt it to the new engine for my car to that point but something it telling me that’s not correct factory point for a formula S car. No offense but my parts car is all original. Never been apart. Engine is actually red not orange in photo- cheap camera.

Mine came with the battery neg. attached to the manifold bolt just ahead of the one in your photo. I remember where it was very clearly because someone tried to steal my battery in 1970 and cut the cables. When I tried to remove the bolt to replace the cable I broke the bolt off. I had a whole day of fun trying to fix that!

wouldn't an original 66 273 have been red?

Joe, I have a few pics of small blocks. I have seen heads where the boss wasn't drilled and tapped like yours. Most heads have the cable connected there. One was connected to the corner intake bolt and one was connected to the outside exhaust manifold bolt. That's where mine is connected. (whether it's the original location or not)

It may be original, but someone has had that cable off at one point. The factory would not have placed that cable under the throttle spring bracket, because it could possibly work loose. That's just way incorrect. The factory did some stupid stuff, but not that stupid.

Yes- after 50+ years. Things like oil filters, battery cables etc are changed. But most people are not going to remove one bolt just to move it else where. But I agree- that’s not the spot. My concern is the factory head was not drilled- so now what?

Ir333 read my first post- my camera sucks and the engine IS red. Not orange as it shows. Please stop and comprehend what is being said not just what you want so you can reply. This site is about good energy and correct information.
It almost looks Chevy orange.... not in my yard!

My 2 cents... In post #10 the return spring bracket seems to be mounted in the wrong place (on top of the riser rather than one bolt farther back where its left side would fit into the pocket in the manifold.)

If the return spring bracket was mounted one hole farther back that would leave the riser bolt hole a perfect place to mount the ground cable.


FYI the 65-66 273 in its OE red in the garage does not have the front head bolt drilled like my 67 does.

As others have said, it seems acceptable to put it under that front intake bolt, but I like how the one up there ^^^^ is located on the exhaust manifold bolt. Correct? Crapped if I know but it looks much cleaner.
 
Here's another shot of battery cable....I have to ask did you check the other head back side to see if its tapped?

I did check and it is not. But the rear of the drivers side head is- for the kick down bracket. And the front of the passenger side is for the alternator bolt.

Sounds like a mystery for the Hardy boys and Nancy Drew!
 
Joe, although this is for a ‘65, this is the closest thing I have to “the Bible”: February ‘65 Hot Rod. Check it out...
