Guessing my Duster still has it original slant six bars, got the number off the drivers side today, can someone help me out? I plan to upgrade to 340 size this spring if these are what I expect that are! JPN 890R
 
1965 to 1972 with 273 & 318 -and- 1973 & 1974 /6 & 318.

If drag racing, not a bad bar to have at all.
 
When you are sitting in the car, looking forward. Drivers side is Left, pass side is right. R should be on the pass side. I have a set of 889 bars, came out of my 71 duster 225 slant 6.

Looks like mine are swapped sides.....................but I do plan to upgrade in spring.
 
I have a set of 340 bars in my duster now with a big block the same weight as an all steel small block. plus a glass hood saved another 35 lbs. My car rides and dives well with those bars in it as well as Strange engineering 9 position adjustable shocks.

I'll probably add a factory sway bar too. Always interested in weight loss, so the sway bar wont help; figured you have alum heads/front cover/water pump/intake. Add in the hood and as you say, thats getting into SB territory (those parts are available for SBs too!) I was surprised at how heavy my stock Rallye wheels were too, and the STEEL seats are really crazy heavy. Have you tried to lighten it up in any other spots?
 
On the motor, Heads, intake, water pump mini starter, headers, aluminum rad, hood, aluminum wheels. car is 3100 lbs with full tank of fuel. Stock bench seats full interior.
 
888/889 are 6 cyl bars .830"
890/891 are 2bbl v8 .850"
892/893 are 4bbl v8 .870"
894/895 are 383 v8 .890"

so what happens when someone installs the t-bars opposite ? right on left and left on right side

I cant answer- but discovered the .890-891/273-318 bars were backwards, but I cant say if they had any affect on the slight wallow ing I am feeling. Will be putting 340 bars and front sway bar on in spring........

I have a stupid question when it comes to this I know that the bars are left to right specific. But are they front and back specific also? I ask because I have a set that is marked on one end differently than the other end.

Yes. the numbered ENDS go toward the rear of the car. I dont think they will even fit the other way.
 
No, it makes no difference, they have a 30* twist so front to rear are the same ether way you put them. look down the bar one way then the other, they are the same.

You will love the bigger bars plus sway-bar combo; it will allow you to soften the shocks some, for street duty. If you have to buy bars, then bigger is even better; 1.03s are NOT too big.

Yes steel wheels weigh almost double of an aluminum wheel, and the aluminums are your best solution to overcoming road harshness. My 15x10 ET-II aluminum slots I have on record as being ~14#. I hammer over speed bumps that the 4-banger tunerboys crab-crawl over, hardly even noticing them.Try that with your 18" sweethearts with the forklift tires on 'em.

they are marked L and R for a reason.
side to side swap reverses the rotational direction of the bars twist/flex under loading and could lead to early and very loud bar failure.

old bars can be set in their ways, they dont always take well to change:D
 
Try it and see what happens, I don't think you can do it!

if what is true in post # 3 then i have tryed it. pulled my bar out on the passenger side and here is what it read

Im doing the full monty on the front end rebuild. going with 1.03 bars so the reason for disassembly. snapped a leaf

Cant send you a message since your box is FULL! You say the alum wheel is about 14lb and the steels are like 28. I've ALWAYS wondered but never took the time to weigh. When I put the Rallyes on I felt they were WAY heavy! Anyone elso have some figures on alloy vs steel wheels?

Looks like you are right, I ran in to it a long time ago and I don't remember what car but it must have been a C body, I thought it was my E body but after looking at the chart I have A B & E have 30* twist others have 40 44 & 42* twist so you can't switch rt to left

They will fit either way the hex is the same size on both ends.
Yes, will fit, but not operate as designed!

Mopar torsion bars are preset at the factory in the direction of use. You can observe this preset by laying the bars down on a flat surface and observing how the bar is twisted. The driver’s side bars will have a 30 degree right hand twist. A passenger side bar will have a 30 degree left handed twist. Pre-setting the bars in this manner improves the load carrying capacity in the pre-set direction. But, the load carrying capacity is reduced in the other direction of twist. This is why it is so important to get the bars installed on the correct side of the car. This twist is put into the bar during fabrication and is done to strengthen the bar. If the bars are put on the wrong side, they will be loaded against the pre-set and will not be able to carry their rated load.

Flipping the bar end for end does not change the direction of twist.
Swapping left to right, and visa versa, does.
