I friend is looking at buying one with the 5.7 and was asking if I knew anything about them. I said no but I'll ask.

So what do you folks know, they got any problems he should be aware of?

Thanks for the advice.

Tension struts and upper ball joints mostly on the early ones. If you need upper ball joints you have to replace both upper control arms as a pair because they took some caster out of them. Call a dealer and have them run the VIN. There is a recall on the air bags. Also some of them had a timing chain recall. Other than that not bad cars.

Awd go like hell!
Road tested one, in winter with high end snow tires. Was like it was on rails.

Oh yea the tension strut and upper ball joint problem was only on the rear wheel drive cars. Completely different set up on the AWD front ends.

no kidding, my "winter beater" is an 08 AWD charger (basically the same car)
only managed to get it stuck once, in 10 michigan winters, and that time i went so high up a snow bank all 4 of my tires were off the ground

and only thing that wasnt a wear item i replaced on that car, in 160K miles were a set of CV boots

i didnt know the AWD came with the 5.7 though?

Now that is awesome. That’s when my wife says I was having to much fun.

I think only the V6 came with AWD.
It is that way with the Challenger.

They never made an AWD Challenger. Maybe your thinking the Charger.

if it has tires or t*ts... I have heard the 5.7 has more aftermarket performance support then the 6.4 and has a stronger bottom end

How does one go about checking the car for a recall? Can he just call a dealer with the VIN?

Yes just call any Chrysler dealer ship and give them the VIN. They can run it while your on the phone and tell you if there are any open recalls.

Yes there may be more bolt on parts in the aftermarket for the 5.7 but the 6.4 is no baby. There are just less of them so there is less of a market for the parts. None of them have a stronger bottom end than the other.

I just bought a 2011 hemi awd 300c to split mileage on my truck .I don't think anyone mentioned that the 11 is a different car than 05-10 and the awd system is different (supposedly better integration). You cannot disable the awd even with the esp button off. Unlike the older cars it runs rwd only and awd on torque demand. If you shut off the traction control it locks awd on. The car is a 4300# leather filled rocket.
