Hi FABO!

1974 Dart with a /6.

I dont even know if this is an issue or not, since the car runs fine, but every time I take a look at my fuel filter with the car running it only fills a small puddle in the bottom. I also dont actually see it pushing any fuel in the filter, leading me to think its trickling in because the level doesnt drop. On my other A-bodies I have had I always recall the filters being 1/3rd to 1/2 full and if they were empty I remember them chugging fuel in there at idle or start speed.

Anyway, its got a new pump on it (previous owner installed) and a new tank, and again I dont know if this is even an issue, since the car runs fine, or something I am looking for an issue in (I have plenty of non made up issues to deal with lol), but should I be concerned at all?

What if you crack the input line loose to "bleed" the air out at the carb for a second?

Havent tried that, I assume the result should be the filter filling quickly since there is no resistance to flow?

That's the idea. It's a sealed system and the only place for it to go is through the float valve which is only going to let so much pass. My son's car showed the same behavior when the float valve was stuck. We thought the pump had failed.

I wouldnt worry about it. If you burp the filter it will just return after some downtime. Ive seen plenty work fine with the air bubble.

Agreed, I wasn't implying it was a "problem", only how to clear it out. Our fuel problem ended up being the stuck valve, not air in the line.

Well I messed around with it. Its pumping fine. It had issues after where it would fall flat when I would give it throttle from idle but I drove it around the neighborhood and that went away. Drove it a few miles to the mall to grab some stuff at the store and it was about as exciting as driving a /6 anywhere could be lol

On a side note, I filled it up and the fuel guage started working again, just reads 3/4 full.. So there is that. Got to love the aftermarket sending units...
