Thanks buddy! Its getting fun now! This is the stuff I love. I hate sanding striping and cleaning and painting lol. Now that most of the safety stuff is almost complete I'm gonna start on the fun stuff! I really need to get my paint so I can spray the engine bay and start running brake lines and start reassembling the suspension and brakes. Its almost to cold to paint now tho it may have to wait till next spring

Can you afford about a $400 block prep that gives you all the cleaning the boring and new cam bearings and distributor shaft bearing ect. ?

No Unfortunately not. I'm gonna do all the cam bearings and stuff myself. I bought a used cam bearing tool on Ebay.

Oh Haha lol I gotcha!! Yea I bought some of that stuff just for this. I use it on my bathrooms too lol. Is it pretty good for grease?

well I seen you asking this question somewhere else so I came here to see what the heck you were doing. I haven't had any experience with those parts or that brand. I assume it's a cheap brand that you're seeing if it will hold up? At this point if you're not going to take it and have it properly prep'ed then I wouldn't be shopping for any kind of quality I would be shopping for a dirt cheap then keep it that way. When I spent money on mine it was all in the Block and the bottom end.

Yea I started a new thread about them so far they have good reviews and yes they are affordable. The connecting rod bearings are 12 vs 40 and the crank bearing are 16 vs 46 that's a savings of almost 60 bucks! I can really use that savings right now.
 
I got my valve springs off one head I will work on the other one tomorrow. I'm sure glad I decided to go ahead and tear this engine all the way down cause this thing is gunky! It only had 77k miles on the engine when I pulled it the PO must have never ever changed the oil from the looks of it. Here are a few pics of the old bearings I have one that has a pretty good put in it. Must have sucked something out of the oil. The crank has a place on it in that journal but I don't feel nothing I can just see it. But whatever it was pitted the bearing pretty good. Here are some pics more to come tomorrow.

I got a little bit done this morning. I got one head cleaned up and started cleaning the valves they are bad. I'm glad I decided to tear this thing down and port these heads I'm not sure how this thing even ran!?! Lol
But the head cleaned up nice now it's time to get the other one disassembled start porting them.

I will look into that I'm getting ready to place an order for bearings, rings, oil pump and the parts to do my rear brakes I will check into the valves. I have the valves soaking in gas right now Hopefully it will help aid in cleaning them. The other head is nowhere near as bad I wonder why just that side is so clogged up? Here is the other head.

For how cheap they are I'd replace all the valves, not just the exhaust's. Even cheap standard replacement valves are better than old well used ones, it's cheap insurance.

I know it's like where does the cheap insurance stop or start though? It's almost like you could say that at every step. Like it would be cheap insurance to prep the block properly instead of just honing it and trying to put bearings in yourself and get it clean enough to take paint and get all the oil galleys and water jackets all clean properly. do you have the crank turned or do you just slap me bearings in there? It would be cheap insurance to have it turned and get oversize bearings? It's like you got to take it all apart and make your decisions where you want to have cheap insurance or where you don't? I always like to put my insurance into the bottom end. Then again all it takes is one part in the top-end to fall asleep LOL and there goes your bottom end! LOL
 
Yeah, I had a ford 351c break a valve through the retainer collect groove 1500 miles after a £1500 freshen/mild tune. all new valves would've added £80 to the build, hindsight is a wonderful thing. I've fitted new valves to even stock rebuilds/refreshes since.

Dude what did you use to degrease that head ? Looks awesome!! Keep up the good work , i wouldn't stress about the valves. I would worry more about the springs , especially if you plan on a cam swap.

Thanks. I used carb cleaner and a little wire brush some elbow grease lol. It cleaned up nice I'm happy with it.
