i am wondering if there is a cheapish upgrade for my headlights, cuz i want something brighter, but i dont want leds so i was wondering if sombody here has done any hologen lights or if it can be done and if so where can i get em?
 
Use a relay to power the headlights. Your probably getting 10 volts or less running through the headlight switch.
 
Adding a relay made a BIG difference in my stock halogen headlights. My relays are mounted under the battery tray on the inner fender completely hidden.

This is probably the best bang for the buck. That seems to be both subjective consensus and based on objective testing.

The relay system is really a good idea on our A-bodies for two reasons.
1) The headlight circuit is relatively long with many connections and only 16 gage and 18 gage wire. Vibration and moisture cause oxidation and loose connections which creates additional resistance. In various a-bodies I've partially melted a headlight connector, a head switch connector, and had the circuit breaker open while driving on a dark interstate.
The original 6012 headlights were rated at 40W/50W. They were generally superceded by slightly higher draw 6014 50W/60W bulbs. All those mentioned above will also draw slightly more than originals.

2) Bulbs run brighter as the voltage goes up.

Mattax hit on the best value light for the $ H6024NH GE bulbs.

Run those and one of my relay kits and you'll be surprised by the performance of those cheap headlights!
 
I’ll second (or third) that. I am running crackedback’s harness and th Nighthawk bulbs, they seem to be twice as bright as the stock ones I replaced, worth every penny.

I've done the relay and Cibie E code upgrade to a few cars, including my 75 F250 that I currently drive. They are retina burners.
 
If you have the tools to properly terminate the ends, by all means build it yourself. I sell a do it yourself kit with parts only on parts + wire.

If you haven't done one and know the lengths, it will take a while to get it done.

Also, you get tech info with a phone call or email with me that most can't provide. Daniel is good at this as well.

Just by QUALITY product and not cheap stuff from a certain country. Don't skimp on relays, ever. They are the lifeblood of the system.

I picked up a set like that locally from someone who was converting their jeep to leds. I think I paid $20.
They are a different look. Mine had H13 bulbs in it not sure if the H4's will fit the same.
 
Bulb position within a lamp housing is critical for the reflector and lens to effectively place the light where it needs to go.
H13 lamp systems are generally considered a poorer platform to start with.
"The H4 system has a much greater degree of inherent glare control on low beam than H13 does. And the electrical terminals on an H4 bulb and its socket are much larger and better able to handle elevated current levels."

In fact, Jeepers with H13 often switch to good quality H4s.

Regardless of the lamp type, if the reflector and lens are not well designed and well manufactured, the result is junk. Could be better off with an antique well made 6014 lamp than a junky H6024 or H4. We're lucky that a few people inside the industry have been willing to share analysis and objective test results on the internet. Might as well take advantage of it. The Nighthawks mentioned above are very inexpensive, and the Hella Vision Plus lamps are pretty reasonable (but good bulbs for them add to that cost).
 
No matter what . All early Mopars should have an update headlight relay kit. They are known for switches melting due to poor design running high amps thru the switch. You'll be glad you did. As posted before even your factory headlights will be much brighter .

See if the public comment can still be submitted to NHTSA regarding glare. If so, start a little campaign - I'd send 'em an email or letter. I bet others would too.
Apparently Ford truck's are not the only omnes with problems.
What do you do when your headlights create excessive glare and have poor throw?

PS. In PA (and I think NJ) every inspection station must have headlight aiming equipment and know how to use it. Of course it usually collects dust, but the intent is there...
 
there was a member on here that did a swap with a jeep wrangler lamp...ill try to search for it. . thought it was pretty cool.
 
The guy did a nice job, and with some better lamps would be even better lighting.
