yes i know its harder,but im not pulling the engine.i know what comes off,but i need the proper way to install gaskets,seal cork to block ect,ect.i need the sure fire way as im not doing it again.i would even go with the right stuff instead of gaskets if it will work on 360 small block.nor worried about too hard to get the pan off with it.i need a expert advise on this one.thanks

- Lift engine enough so that pan will drop out without having to twist it around.
- Examine the pan flanges and straighten it at the bolt holes by laying the pan flange gasket side up on a narrow board edge, and LIGHTLY hammer the hole areas flat with the rest of the flange with a small ball peen hammer.
- Clean the surfaces squeaky clean; finish off with some brake cleaner on a clean rag and wipe down to get it oil free.
- Use a skim coat of Black RTV..... NOT gobs and gobs... on the block flange as a way to make the gaskets adhere to the block. Press gaskets evenly in place.
- DO put gobs at the corners where the side gaskets go under the end rubber gaskets.
- Skim coat on the pan flanges and put it up slowly and evenly in place
- Hold the pan with one hand and start 4 corner bolts
- Then put in all bolts and lightly snug them up evenly. I go every 3rd bolt or so and go around and around gradually and evenly.
- When they are all snugged, then snug some more with light torque and don't distort the pan edge.
- Once the gasket starts to squeeze out right beside each bolt JUST THE LEAST LITTLE BIT, THEN STOP!

I personally put all the gaskets on the pan first with the sealer also on the engine side of the gaskets then install the pan all in one shot.
I pull the engine.
ive heard to 3m the gasket to the block, right stuff on both sides of the end rubbers,then put the pan on.put them all on the pan,then put the pan on.some say use black rtv,some say none at all.ive researched a lot and it seems everyone has there own way.i did it last time with engine in the car,it was not that bad,but the corked moved with black rtv on it and of corse it leaked.as you know its a real pain doing it in the car,i just want it not to leak this time.thanks

Yep, too much RTV acts like a lubricant and the gaskets will slip around. That is why to use just a skim coat, except at the corners. Gluing the side gaskets up with something else seems like it would work too.
Some members on here recommend Gasgacinch. I've not tried it yet but will next time.

I used rite stuff on a r/b main stud girdle, like to have never got it off , won`t do that again.
Matter of fact, I`m going to remove the girdle entirely-----------

Used black Felpro RTV on fiber Felpro gaskets on engine and trans time before last. Had to use a paint scraper and a hammer to get both pans off with them out of the car. NEVER AGAIN!
I won't even tell you how long, or how many razor blades it took to get that crap off the block, trans, and both pans...
I won't go near Right Stuff or 3M weather strip adhesive for the same reason!
This last time I used Permatex Ultra Gray on the oil pan...JUST enough to stick the cork TO THE PAN.
NOTHING on the block side.
A dab on each end of the rubber pieces, nothing in the middle areas.
Sealed like a charm.
Transmissionion pan (chrome steel) got a Moroso Perm-Align gasket DRY.
NO LEAKS!

Hell no! First, you'll have to use tons of it at the front/rear seals. And the excess will end up in the oil and once it's sucked up by the oil pump it will do all sorts of damage.
I'd get a one-piece gasket and be done with it. No glue, RTV, or silicone.

I have pretty much settled on the black RTV silicone gasket maker, about like the grey but maybe a hair tuffer . Maybe a hair harder to get off and cleaned up , maybe !
