Ok, I'm installing a new gas tank cr11e in my 74 Duster. Got a new sending unit with it. The locking ring and rubber gasket fit right in on the Sender, but I read that it might not seal as good. Anybody installed this new Tank with new sender? Any issues with leaking? I can get the ring off the old Tank, but this new one should seal right?

Whats you plans for the old sending unit? Is it OE?

On my 67 I used the OE ring and the new seal. leaked like a sieve. I added the old one on top of the new one and not another drop!

If the ring rotates easy its not tight enough. Usually a small hammer and a brass or aluminum punch is whats needed to remove/install the lock ring and seal. Do not use a steel punch as sparks and fuel vapors don't mix well. Since its a new tank, there isn't much to worry about.

I put that tank in my car with a new sender / gasket but used the original lock ring. After a while it started leaking so I made a duplicate of the gasket out of a piece of a WW fluid jug and put it between the sender and the lock ring. It was the right thickness to snug it up a bit and hasnt leaked since.

As dano said , sometimes this is tricky and you need a brass drift to secure the lock ring . FYI the lock ring and seal are available separately if you mess up . I suggest that before you install the tank in the car that you put some water in the tank and turn it upside down to check for a leak . I that checks out put shop air or shopvac in the filler hole to dry up the water.

Anybody use the new sender and tank and not have issues using all the new parts?

I used the same set up, w/ the orig. lock ring and new gaqsket, the new lock ring didn`t feel right and leaked. Had to pull the tank to do it, due to the closeness of the dana . Be sure to lubricate the filler neck and seal/ keep the neck squared up in the gasket------------

I would use the old lock ring. I had fits (leaked like a sieve) with the new one that came with my new sending unit, I used the old one and it was fine.

72 Demon, new tank and sending unit, purchased separately. Both came with lock ring/gasket.
I used the ones that came with the tank and not a drop leaked.
I went with the theory that it was made to go with that tank so it should seal.
Plus they just seemed to fit better.:D

Thanks you guys. I'm going to try the new one and report back to you guys if it works properly.
