Ebay GT45 + 5.9 Magnum + E85 blow thru

New personal best tonight. Launch and traction still need work but it improved a bit.

Documenting this for my notes. This is my log from my good run last night. I made 4, but this was the only one "worth writing home to mom about". The others were just skating exhibitions coming out of the hole.

So, I can't get this thing to build and hold boost. Must be the cheapo Ebay wastegate and/or controller or the spring. It's supposedly a 10lb spring but it was as lite as the 5lb I had in it before. I'm swapping the spring out next for a stiffer one.

In the log, the lite yellow is the car at the light on the 2-step, building boost and then as it goes down and gets darker green, 1st gear, 2nd gear and finally 3rd is the darkest green. I might be off on some of the shift points though. 9.2psi in 1st coming out of the hole off of the 2-step was the max. After that it just settled to around 6psi. 5626RPM was as high as I twisted. I set my shift light at 5500.

So on the balance, it's making decent times and great trap speed on low boost and low RPM but I'm leaving a lot on the table. This thing has a 6.9x in it easily with better traction and a few more pounds of boost and should still be a decently reliable JY/Ebay turbo build.

Oh and finally, the DA from the track. This was from this morning but when I checked last night it was essentially the same. Kind of funny that the track is literally 3' above sea level but the DA puts it closer to 2400'!

Just read this start to finish. Good info for my upcoming Twin Turbo setup.

Following!

You are getting there! 7.19 isn't bad. The 1.75 60 ft because of spinning off the line?

I'm still working the bugs out of my Procharger build.

Not sure if it is spinning or not. On that run I did a big nasty burn out and it felt like it hooked pretty good but the car does still feel a little lazy coming out of the hole, even under boost. Maybe it's the 3.23s and I'm foot braking.

Added a methanol injection system and have the boost turned up to 10-11psi. The methanol is added insurance and will allow me to use pump 93 also which is more readily available around here.

Nice, had meth injection back on my srt4, was great to have just don't tune the engine to it unless you have the low level sensor, without it you'll go way lean, burnt a piston that way by accident, forgot to check my fluid level.

I've been running a stock magnum bottom end, E85 and turbo in my 3250lb Aussie charger for a couple of years now. I run around 10.2 to down the quarter. I'm surprised how long the bottom has lasted but it finally let go last night when I wount up the boost to 625 horsepower at the wheels. It's breathing quite badly and has a compression down on one cylinder so I'm thinking factory piston issue. Was amazing how long it lasted. Hope this build goes well for you because I was really happy with mine for a long time

Sorry to hear the engine gave up but that is pretty darn good for a stock slug engine. I hope you get back into it soon. Best of luck!

Now where are those nay sayers on stock hyper engines suck and can’t hold any power?

I hope it works without having to touch my AFRs. If I switch to 93 for any reason I can just create a new profile/tune on the Fitech and alternate between it and my E85 tune. That's all in theory anyway. In practice it will probably be a big pita! Lol.

Too bad about your motor but it's encouraging to hear you did get pretty good mileage out of it. What kind of psi were you running when it popped?

Well justntune a little to it, the meth will cause the afr to go a bit richer. Did you get a micro switch to activate it or boost reference?

It has an adjustable pressure switch. I want to trigger the meth at 5psi. If it goes too rich and bogs I'll increase it a bit.

I was running 15 psi. Once I got rid of the Chinese wastegates and put on some good quality ones it was such a reliable good engine.

First quick test with the methanol injection...
Seems to work fine and it's not killing my AFRs, though it does seem slightly lean. It's hard to tell from the log when the spray starts but I was monitoring the little LED light that indicates when the spray comes on and when it turns green, the tires break loose! Air temp is down quiet a bit also, ~98 at peak. Before it was closer to 165 though probably not a fair comparison. Ambient temp is considerably cooler now compared to when I last tested before methanol. Also, my boost is a little higher than before. When I first increased the spring rate on the wastegate I was seeing a max of 11.1psi. On this run I hit a peak of 11.8psi. This was a light run, in 3rd gear and through the mufflers and as you can see by my TPS and the fluctuating RPM, I had to peddle it. Finally, I don't know what my actual methanol/water ratio is. I threw in about a 1/3 of a gallon of +20 blue windshield wiper fluid and two bottles of Heet which is 100% methanol.

Cool pics of my car I found on the Homestead/Miami Speedway Instagram Page. I'm rubbing elbows with Nascar legends! Lol.

New personal best: 7.18 at 103MPH on first run.
2nd run it bogged off the line and I ran at 7.44 but at 107MPH! It was flying.

My 3rd and final run was a 7.18 at 106.5MPH. I have no idea what my 60 was cause the time slip machine was out of order after my first run but I know it sucked like the first. Once I get this thing to hook it will easily hit high 6s. These runs were on 10-11psi with meth injection.

First off, I'm very jealous you get to race this time of year. Nice numbers! My personal best is 7.16 on 10 lbs of boost but only at 98 MPH so you are making more power than me. It should definitely go high 6s once you get it to hook. Congrats!

Haha thanks! It's kind of the inverse down here. Summer is so damn hot and humid it sucks all of the motivation out of you to work on the car. Winter is cool (60s-70s) and low humidity. Great racing weather. Even with the low temp and humidity the DA was still around 1200ft Friday night. I reviewed my fitch log and watched my video from that last run and saw that I had to let off the gas twice as I lost traction. That's where my ET went. Need to invest in rear suspension. I wanna do a triangulated 4-link and make it street friendly but still be able to handle the 1/8 mile with modest 60' times. My stock slant leaf springs are flat.
