Hey folks,
Just curious what this might be. Just got the duster up and running but no heat. I have other things to check, but noticed that when I tested this with the vacuum pump, it tended to not work or stick open. Car is factory AC.
Where do I get one, and or do i want to replace it or remove it and just run a hose.
Thanks in Advance,
Adam

I'm not good on A/C cars, but we are looking at a heater control valve. It should be on the inlet hose side and allows heated water to flow through the core. You are testing it correctly, it should open and close. Just don't know if that is an original one or not. With valve open, you can disconnect the return hose to see if the water is flowing. If it is flowing you should get some heat if the water is hot.

replace it.
if you just run hose w/o valve the heater core will have hot water flowing thru it all the time, unregulated.
OK if your in the arctic.
But not so much in the desert.

Thanks,
Is this the original and any advice on where to find one?
Not seeing anything that matches this exactly.

I do not think that is the original style. All the originals I have seen both hoses connect to it.

What is this on?

It May just be stuck. Take it loose and play with it some. I don’t think they are reproduced. You can put a manual valve in and open it in the winter and close it in the summer if you want.

You can use any vacuum valve that has the right heater hose size and works the same way. Some open with vacuum applied and some close with vacuum applied.

I bought the wrong one off eBay for $7 I think. it worked the opposite. I swapped vacuum hoses under the dash to make it work, since I am a cheapskate.

Arron, that is a great piece of info. I didn’t find that one when I was doing mine earlier in the year. That would have made my job a lot easier.

Thanks,
I zip tied it open, but got no heat. I noticed the heater hoses even before the valve weren't nearly as hot as the main radiator hose.
Thanks again for the help

Hello bisblue,
Sounds like the heater core is blocked up OR the valve is stuck closed and the shaft may just be spinning in the housing.
You can bypass the valve and see if it corrects the issue Or you can connect the hose from the water pump to the hose to the intake manifold (bypass the heater) and see if the hose gets as hot as the radiator hoses.
This way you will confirm the defective component.
Hope it is the valve cause the core stinks to replace. If you have to do the core but the heater box gasket kit and do it all in one shot.
Now I have a question.
Does the high pressure line and the low pressure line for the AC connect to differant sides of the condensor? (Drivers / Passanger) Or do they both connect to the passanger side?
A pix would help.
I am trying to correct my car and that would help me get the correct hoses / condenser.
Hope this helps.
Happy Mopar :)

I'll snap a shot today if the AC lines
Hello bisblue,
Thanks for the pictures.
As you are finding out over the years things have been changed on cars by both dealer, local, and shade tree mechanics.
This is what makes it a challenge and or fun to try to find the part you need.
This pix is a duster that i found on the web. It has a totally different one then the four or five we all have covered in this post.
I think you can find one in your budget with the form and fit you are looking for.
Moving on,
As in respect to the AC condensor I am also having the same issue trying to find a new or NOS Condenser for my duster.
All the listings show whats in your pictures But I have whats in the picture below (not my car).
Any way hope you can get heat in that car because "Babby its cold outside" OH wait we cant sing that song any more cause some people have deemed it "The world we live in is extra sensitive now, and people get easily offended"
Oh well I guess I will eat sushi next 4th of July in my american made Duster.
Happy Mopar :)

Hey Bisblue that is a factory piece and no it isn’t reproduced I have looked all over. I have a 73 and by the looks of your overflow tank you have a 74. Can I ask you a question, which vacuum hose goes to the heater control valve and which hoses go to the vacuum canister beside the heater valve and one more the blower motor where do the wires go and hook up away from the motor. Thanks

As best as I can remember a hose comes from the intake to the vacuum canister, then from the canister into the firewall, then the other hose comes out the firewall and to the heater valve. I will shoot a picture when I get a chance.
My car seems really stock, but it also got "tuned up" by a sixteen year old 8 years ago....
