Never mind.
Okay I know those cats are messing with you but here's the slow scoop on that. they're trying to say is the shaft that you want you know doesn't go all the way through the transmission it stopped short at the front and then butts into the one that actually does come out the front. I believe what they were good in that is theirs Factory clarence's between the two that have to be pretty correct. So getting them together gets allI the tolerance is correct automatically more or less without fighting it.Okay, stupid question time. By output end do you mean the end of the shaft that sticks out from the rear end of the tail housing.
Okay, thank you. That clears up a bunch. It IS a good unit and I really would like to keep it. Sigh...I guess I will have to sell it, although I am fairly sure there has been some significant upgrades put in it that I will lose with a new unit. Also, I don't have the money to just go and buy a whole new unit. Thanks for the advice and I will think about what I can do here.Okay I know those cats are messing with you but here's the slow scoop on that. they're trying to say is the shaft that you want you know doesn't go all the way through the transmission it stopped short at the front and then butts into the one that actually does come out the front. All 727 are strong Transmissions LOL if you want my personal opinion if that transmission ran so good I would try and sell it and just get the correct one it's just so much less hassle. Even to get the correct one and put $120 rebuild kit in it.
So if I buy a 75 and earlier unit I will be okay? Yes? Mine is a 1973.It is an easy enough task to change the output housing and shaft, to convert the transmission to a long tailshaft slip yoke style. You just need to ensure that the output shaft you use is correct to mate to the forward planetary carrier. Other than the oddball 65 and prior stuff there are only two shafts, 75 and earlier and 76 and later. The difference is that the splines on the forward end of the shaft are cut differently and must match the planetary carrier.
Yes, as long as someone hasnt already changed the guts to later style. Your best bet is to pull it apart, once apart you can tell visually what style output shaft you have and need. I have both an early and a late style if you need one.So if I buy a 75 and earlier unit I will be okay? Yes? Mine is a 1973.
I will get with them and thank you. I am also talking with Torqueflite/ patty on e bay.Since you live in Vermont , get in touch with Chris or Craig Munroe @ TSR racing in Gilsum/Keene New Hampshire . their father , Carl Munroe , wrote the book on 727's . They built my transmission and it's no joke . These folks are super nice and super easy to do business with . It is a business , however , and they are super busy . Try them , you got nothing to loose .
That's true. Sigh, I just hate to toss/sell a tranny I know to be good and start over again. Although, I suppose that I could take the performance parts out of this one and incorporate them into the next one.I mean think about it if you were going to take that shaft out you were going to rebuild the entire transmission anyways.
What performance parts are in it again? That's true. Sigh, I just hate to toss/sell a tranny I know to be good and start over again. Although, I suppose that I could take the performance parts out of this one and incorporate them into the next one.
If you were going to try and change that shaft out you were fixing to learn...I have a couple of local sources looking for one for me today. Not sure what all is in that trans,
No, it didn't sound like a backwards record.." Freddy is the devil...Freddy is the devil"....or anything..lol. I surmised as much, that it was not really a super technical deal or anything. Something other than a straight up rebuild might be another story though. I do have that manual by Munroe over in NH. That will be good too.^^^that was just one long voice command I wasn't going to take the time to correct all that so I hope it didn't say nothing weird like this....
Yes. those differences are just before the long spline where the yoke slides on.Okay, stupid question time. By output end do you mean the end of the shaft that sticks out from the rear end of the tail housing.
Yes, thank you DaveThose are output shafts, I think this is what you meant?
Let us know what happens. Thanks everyone!
I will.Let us know what happens.
