I’m not loving the Grant Tuff Wheel replica that I installed a couple years back. It looks pretty good but unlike a real one, the rim is very hard, the metal spokes need some attention with a file...and even if it was perfect, I’m finding that the standard “everybody does it” mods aren’t super appealing anymore. There’s no doubt about why this style wheel is popular but I’m interested in trying something new.

So what would it take to mount up a Momo steering wheel? I have seen adapters but nothing that states application-specificity.

Has anyone tried this yet?

MoMo makes some nice wheels. My problem with aftermarket wheels is the cheesy horn adapter kits that they all seem to have.
 
About 9 years ago. I did a lot of searching for the adapter back then. I had to identify the steering shaft diameter and spine count. I've forgotten that now. So for example only 7/16 24 spline to momo adapter at 1 inch thickness. I finally found a catalog/chart like page of billet aluminum adapters on line. Lo and behold what I needed was there.
Adapter didn't have a master spline so I had to file away the master spline on my column shaft.

Mine is a Jet brand wheel. The horn switch/button was indeed plasti-crap. Had to pretty much rebuilt the thing to beef it up.
 
I was eyeballing Momo when I was looking. I ended up with a GT Performance wheel and did the black horn button. Probably going to have a Fratzog decal made for the horn button. I wanted something more period looking and would fit my tilt column as the stock one leaves gaps.

I throw mine on the dash so I have limited choices.
 
That well known protouring, wicked looking green ‘71 Demon is running a Momo wheel.

I guess the trick comes down to finding the right adapter...and of course, old Mopars are seemingly not amongst the official applications.

Is there a known list of cars that has the same column/spline dimensions as a stock vintage Mopar?
 
I went with this one since my grant cracked before I even drove the car, think their quality has gone down. Haven't installed it yet waiting till right before I get it running.

Yep, the installation adapter makes all the difference not only in getting the wheel on but how it looks installed.
I had (still have it) a Grant wheel and installation kit, and the hub that the wheel connects to has a soft rubber boot around it that was pretty much impossible to keep round.
Basically it looked like a shifter boot for the steering wheel hub and I hated it.

Then I found a wheel at Big Dog performance parts.
The mounting hub is polished billet and looks really nice, and the rest of the kit was better including the horn button. (not tons better on the button, but not as cheap as the Grant stuff)

I found some round Mylar Mopar "M" stickers online that fit the button perfectly.
The adapter hub/horn ring is also billet, and the install kit was perfect for the application.

I found the box that my little adapter hub came in. Has only a number stamped in red, MN10, which didn't help at all in Google search.
I doubt another mfgr would have the same shaft diameter and spline count as Chrysler. If my memory serves the vintage Chryslers aren't all the same either.
Since you already have a Grant hub that fits your steering shaft you only need Grant to momo adapter.

So it’s all ordered up. If this works out, there will be a very lightly-used Grant Tuff Wheel replica available for cheap.

Yup stock seat belts as per the law. I have the lovely 76 double adjusters which make them next to impossible to use but I get it done.

The adaptor showed up on Saturday and it went on in about 5 minutes. The only catch seems to be figuring out how to make the horn work. The diameter of the open space around the hub of the adaptor is now much smaller and won't let the contact plate work in the stock arrangement.

The wheel will be here tonight. Pics forthcoming.
 
The steering wheel arrived and it looks exactly like the sports car steering wheel that I've wanted in a car since I was a kid. Simple, clean design, light weight, excellent suede grip with just the right diameter.
Unfortunately I didn't get home from night classes until almost 10PM and I'm back at work by 6AM this morning...so I haven't quite found the time to bolt it up yet. I'll share pictures as soon as possible. :)

Whittling out the adaptor/hub isn't really an option but shaving down the OD on the contact plate might be. Hmm...
 
If you take a notion to shorten the signal wand... it can be done. I wouldn't attempt to do this in the car though. I had a extra wand here to work with. Don't know about shortening a column shift lever. I suppose that could be done also.

Good thoughts there! I don’t anticipate the turn signal lever bothering me. I bent it back a few degrees when I had the Tuff Wheel replica in there and it doesn’t get in the way now. The shift lever...well, I’m dreaming of my T56 Swap next year or so! That would solve that problem :D
 
I have really been loving the Momo Mod 7 suede wheel...but I got a spontaneous hankering to try out something new and I found a deal on an open box silver Momo Prototipo. I'll be damned if I don't like this one just as much.

The black suede wheel will probably be up for sale soon. I just need to make sure that I like this one as much as the old one.
