Hi all, doing some DIY gasket match n post work. My "dremel" works good, but I cant reach all the way in to valve guide boss. Any idea where to get some? Stones or carbides.
Thanks
Steve

I don't think I have ever seen 1/8" bits with a longer length, I have them in 1/4" bits 6" long and they are great for ports.

Yes, if your Dremel has a 1/8" collet I have never seen long bits for that small shaft. The standard electric and air grinders use 1/4" shamk bits and you can buy them many places. As a MAC dealer for decades I sold many sets and always had a set on the truck. Prices range $15-$150. I can't speak of the quality of the cheap ones but I have sold and used the expensive ones and they are a very quality carbide burr.

The problem with the long 1/8 shafts is that the will bend and throw balance off. I think you would be over working a Dremel trying to port a cylinder head. They sell 1/4 electric grinders which would be more appropriate for that kind of work and bits would be more widely available. I have to admit it is probably 1 of the most useful tools in cutting bolts off with the bigger discs.

I'd also recommend something with more "beef" than a Dremel, I broke my old one when it chattered trying to clearance the pushrod holes in some aluminum heads. I bought a bigger one and also the flex extension so if that ever happens again it'll just toast the extension instead of the Dremel itself.

Although honestly i'll probably not use my Dremel on cylinder heads again, if I need to i'll get a proper die grinder instead.

I have a pneumatic grinder and some short carbides, but Mother Nature is a bitter beach right now. So indoors in the basement it is. "Jobmate" basic brand 1/8" elec grinder is what I have. Lots of stones and a few carbides. Just too short. Figured longer bits might be available for it. Makes sense they arent, I agree bearing/motor failure may be pretty quick.
I'll check around for a midgrade elec 1/4" grinder kit with some 6" burrs. I dont need a high grade one.
Thanks all.
Bruce, will that flexible extension work on different makes of 1/8" grinders? Are the connections at all grinders the same?
Thanks!
These are inch and 3/4 OAL.

And I would suggest this:

Flexible Dremel Extension Shaft long moto attachment chuck Rotary Tool accessory | eBay

IF you don't have one. I have one of these, and I sometimes put it on, hang the Dremel over the work area and use the extension.

Can't say for sure, I do know that I have a Craftsman unit and I have a Dremel. It does fit both.

I guess you would have to look for picks and compare.
