When changing over from a stock gen 3 front sump oil pan, too a Milodon mid sump pan. Can you used the factory oil dip stick?

I have a 6.1, I have a new dip stick. I also had to knock out a plug in the block.

Add your "X" amount of quarts, run it to get the filter full, let it set then check the stick. This would be the correct amount. Now make a permanent mark on the dipstick>

ok, but how do you know how many is "X" quarts?
Could you figure how far below the pan rail the crank hangs down, then mark the pan accordingly, fill the pan(off the engine) with water or what have you, to the mark then measure how many "X" quarts that takes?
OR, maybe you could insert the dipstick and mark it directly where it is just below the crank throws. Just throwing these ideas out there, anybody have better ideas?

So you are saying I could use the stock dip stick as long as I mark the oil location line?

Do have any pictures of the location where plug was removed?

I do not. With the pan off it is hard to miss. Just look for a round outline. When I bought my pan, the shop informed me I needed a dip stick, now, to be honest, I went ahead and bought it. That is one part I actually didn’t research prior to purchasing.

How many quart oil pan is it? Stock is 4+ quart is the Mildon 7 quart? Typically it would be the width or length of the pan that increases the volume and depending on the model, the depth. Under filling could be dire whereas over filling could be damaging also. I would think that if this is a 7 quart pan than you would want to see 7 quarts on the stick

The Milodon dipstick was too long. I had to disassemble it and shorten it. Are you using the factory or Milodon windage tray? I had many fitment problems with the Milodon tray.

The one I used with my Milodon pan, I got from bouchillon performance, small amount of tweeking to go around the tti's, works great, looks like a factory stick that has been modified for the correct length. Just had to knock out the block plug on driver side. Not great pic but you get the idea.

I have a 5.7 that came from a car, 2006 i believe. I used a factory dipstick for my Milodon pan, though I think it was the truck dipstick. It's kind out there in a weird place, but it works fine for me.

What's the best way to remove plug in block thanks

I don't think I had a plug in mine, but if I did I think it was just a matter of taking the oil pan off and hitting the dipstick hole with a punch. I think it's just like a typical freeze plug in that it's just a little cup. You can see the bottom side of the hole with the pan off so you can just knock it out with a long enough punch.

Correct. Use a punch
