How to sanitize interior after long-term rodent intrusion?

Mice pissing in there for how long? Rare or not, I’d rip it all out. IMHO

I can’t imaging touching that stuff let alone sitting on sitting on it. Im gagging just thinking about it.
 
My son bought a car cheap that had a lot of dog smell in it. We used two things.
The first was an ozonator. I bought it on amazon for about $100. It eliminates a lot of odors and will get in a lot of places. Be sure you observe safety precautions as ozone is dangerous in high concentrations.
The second was Ozium. You can buy it at Walmart or Oreilly or online. Buy a big can, tape the nozzle down & throw it in the car with the widows up. Leave it overnight.
 
Rent a carpet steam cleaner that has a upholstery wand. Buy nature's miracle from a pet store. Mix the nature's miracle in the steam cleaner and do the seats several times.
For the carpet you can try steam cleaning with nature's miracle, but I'd probably do a cheap JCWhitney replacement.
 
ONLY you can decide what your health is worth . PPE is mandatory . I would remove the infested stuff . I wouldn't wand my wife or grandkids getting sick . The home canter has commercial disinfectant that works well . As for the odor , move outside , down all the windows , open the hood and trunk , get a $20.00 floor fan from HOME Cheapo , turn on for a couple of weeks .
 
After a gallon of milk blew up and soaked into the carpet of my commute car the carpet could not be cleaned enough to keep the smell from coming back. Carpet had to be pulled and replaced but before installed I used an enzyme product made by OdoBan that worked well to neutralize the floor pan and various crevices that the milk seeped into.
I tried to use it again to kill the mice piss smell from my old barracuda that was stored in a barn... it didn't work as just a spray down of the carpet but it did work to kill it after the carpet was removed.

With long rubber gloves, a full respirator, and throw away old clothes, I sprayed everything down, removed the seats, and put the carpet and any nest material into a large heavy duty garbage bag and sealed it up.
Then mixed a good amount of simple green and water in a bucket, multiple times, and dumped it all over, inside, down the cowl, in doors, trunk, everywhere.
Then sprayed it all down again to get the suds going.
Scrubbed everything with a nylon brush.
Pulled the body plugs and sprayed it out.

Repeat if needed.

Btw, I have a hot water outdoor spigot, install one if you don't, you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

To prevent mice/rodents, I took a leftover cedar 2x4 piece from a swingset kit and threw it on the back floor. Slicing a thin piece off the end every year doesn't hurt either.

Not a rodent since.
 
I had a mouse motel corvette I bought.
Bought it off a guy who kept it stored in a barn.
The car had perfect interior in it.
When I looked at the car I did not notice no mice issues or smell, but it was parked inside in the shade.
Had the guy deliver it to me a few days later, and it sat outside the next day, untouched at my house, 4th of July so cook-out going on, the car just sat in the sun.
The next day, you could not stand to open the door of the car, field mice from the guys farm and built nests everywhere in the car.
I ripped all the interior out and thru it away, washed cleaned floor boards up and painted them to kill the smell.
Nothing worked, the mice urine had soaked into the fiberglass, it still reeked.
My granddaughter was 5 years old at the time and still to this day calls it the stinky-corvette.
Even after putting a whole new interior in it, cleaning every possible crevice, that car was doomed to stink.
 
Man, I got to remember to roll up the window in the garaged car now.....I found a rat hooch under a chest of drawers out there and in a bin up in my stack rack. Foul creatures.....Dog goes ape **** when I open the garage, she tears in there sniffin and pokin....chased one out once but that was all. Id think if yoi took the carpet out and just hosed it down and let it air dry on a hot day it would sure help. Maybe a little fabreeze in the rinse water?

Upholstery, same thing. Unless it's a pattern or a rare material that has not been replicated/reproduced.

If it is as bad as you say, only metal and hard plastic can be kept. Everything else needs to go. First of all, you will never get the smell out of it, and secondly, it isn't healthy to try and save. PROTECT yourself. The guys that have already said this are right. My undergraduate degree is in Biology. Trust me when I say protect yourself. Kern Dog is wrong. It is very dangerous.
 
I just dealt with this with my Valiant. I just swept, raked and dug it all out with my hands. Didn't even think about it. I don't plan on sanitizing anything, because The entire floor is getting the wire brush and rustoleum treatment once the rear floor pans are repaired. Then plan on recovering the seats and door panels.
