Chrysler /6 performance book dutra

There won't be an aluminum head, becase nobody wants to put up the $70,000 to $100,00 to pay a foundry to do a run. Once a run is done, there may be less the 20 people that will actually pay the $2,000 plus cost for such a head.

Improved design. There is a head from Argentina formula cars floating around the Midwest. Big valves, big ports and heart shaped combustion chamber. Mr Dutra himself is rumored to have designed a head. But nothing will happen until the above is resolved.

There are several threads over on slantsix.org on this topic. Maybe you need to revive one.
Best comment so far IMHO.
The market is driven by total volume of sales, not just the enthusiasm of a few. (relatively)
That's why there is so much stuff on the market for small block Chevys for example.
It's not that it's a particularly better design than anything else, but because they sell a lot of them for profit.
Sad but true..............

Heck us Mopar people are lucky we have more available than carpet, seat covers, and spark plugs!!!!! Could be worse, and be into AMC and International!!

About 15 years ago I went to a lunch meeting (for a bunch of subjects) with Muscle Motors. There was a person that was from BullDog that was in the aluminum head business. I believe he sold the company by now, he was a older gent.Anyway at the end I got him to the side and asked about making a slant six head.He said that if the market was there, his ball park figure was in the $3000 to $3800 range.
At the same time I was talking to several header manufactures about doing 6 into 1 slant headers. Most laughed and gave a outright no.Others stated, one off price would be in the $1500 range.A minimum order of 25, the price may be in the $800 wholesale range.

Most of us that are slant fans are because of budget constraints. And as much as I wanted to,knew that even if they could be retailed at say,$1000 I would most likely loose my ***.Back then Hooker and Clifford headers were in the $300 range.

Everything just costs so much more. I bought a set of slant Mopar headers new I believe, back in bout 1998-9? was not expensive. But that was 20 years ago. Seems like just yesterday. ( A sure sign of my old age!!!).
Most of the suppliers of Mopar parts have traditionally been "cottage industries", the little guy in his garage making a living designing and making some parts. Not many younger people want to get into this, make more $ doing something else, benefits, insurance to think of, retired people like me are tired and woreout!

For $2000 plus you can build a nice turbo system. With that, it won't really matter what head you are using. Not enough power, turn up the boost...

Fact is that is the only logical way to make more slant power, I just don't want all that piping! So I drive SLOWwwww in my slant, IF I need the speed, I need a v8! ( yes a BBis a real v8! ha

My understanding was that Doug HAS the Argentine head. Maybe I am mistaken.

So what is so special about this Argentine head?

As mentioned above, closed, heart shaped combustion chambers, bigger valves and better ports. I think there are still pictures of it over on the .org site.

I think some crazy strawberry farmer has the Argentine head. Here is the best part of that head:

Heck with all the feet of snow you guys get, what else is there!!?????? ha I can glad they are off the press!

Why hasn’t anyone cast them out of aluminum. Like reverse engineering it? I’m saying this knowing little to, safer to say none about foundry work. But, if we can land on the moon? A slanty aluminum head surely can’t be that hard or that expensive? Just a thought. I would buy one as long as it wasn’t over the top expensive.
Factory HEMI Head!
Here, do some reading, and hit the links if they still work....................................

Man are you lucky! My copy shipped on 02/22 from Amazon. I cannot wait to start my research for a street performance/show slant 6 formula. I also have the 64 Dart repair manual coming from Rock Auto. I am looking for build options because I do not want to go overboard when increasing performance. I want the car to be a thrill on the street and I want the car to be very reliable and practical.
