WIW - 1967 Barracuda 383 4 speed car

If it’s that nice, I would say upper teens. A white 383 4spd fastback out here sold two years ago for 15k, nice original car.
 
And therein lies the problem. Upper teens is probably a good guess, but I like those cars a lot. I would have guessed higher than upper teens because I like them. I figure a big block four speed car would be worth that, when I am probably wrong. The vintage car market is an unusual beast. Here one day, gone tomorrow.
 
Yep! Collector markets are driven by people wanting the things they wanted or had or remember when they were younger. Sadly enough, when that generation people get too old or die off, so does most or all of the market demand.

Which is why the market tends to move forward in year model popularity.

These cars were fewer numbers and equipped the same. For what ever reason they are undervalued!

It costs more to restore them, then similarly equipped B and E cars. Makes little sense to me.

Heck look at the profile of a BB A-body compared to left and right of this pic. What would you want? These cars are small and had the package!

You think? I don't know, man. Some of the most high dollar and desirable cars I've seen are over on FBBO.

To me, the big block a bodies should be much more valuable. My theory, FWIW is that when the folks from classic industries, year one and the like started to produce the parts, they fully understood the limited production and something of a niche market going in and expected less sales. In order to recoup production costs of with less sales projected, prices have to be raised. Any extra sales due to people wanting to make clones is just extra $$$. Personally, I know a B body appeals to me now because there is more of it can get to to work on easier, even with headers, and I don't have nearly the room I used to have in a '71 Duster with my newfound girth. Is american diet and obesity the reason all the vehicles (especially trucks) get larger every year and what is driving up the B body demand? One has to wonder, but probably not. If that where the case, we would be witnessing a stupidly priced C-body market and demand. I also know more people that had a bodies than b bodies when they where new, even one guy locally that still owns his first new car, a '70 340 Duster in need of restoration. I think most of it is driven equally by the remnants of the overpriced Barrett Jackson craze and a lot of the build up of the legend from the mid eighties on through various media.
 
I will say that BB A’s IMO are better strip cars than drivers. 340 stick cars seem much more balanced and enjoyable to drive!

Also, while the B bodies were being built up to legendary status, the big block A's in particular got a lot of bad ink for poor handling and ride. Like someone was expecting it to be something other than a straight line missile, which is all the factory intended it to be used for. Anyone happen to know what a 69 M code (440) Barracuda would run with just a set of slicks and a set of open headers? I don't, but I bet it would be quick enough with 3.91 gears to make the tech inspectors unhappy without any safety equipment other than what the car came with.

Supply and demand, throw in popularity and you have today's investment opportunity. Or you could say if I only bought Microsoft stock back in the 80's. The asking price most of the time isn't the selling price, if some fool with a wad of cash comes along you might as well keep looking. Otherwise just offer the seller the amount you are comfortable with, after all your the one that has to make the build work with a budget. Unless of course you have a Gas Monkey budget!

Here's your answer, if you owned that 67 383 4 speed, what would you let it go for?
 
As someone that owns a 67 conv 383 4 speed formula s I’ll give my two cents for what it’s worth. I’d say that if you could buy that 67 blue 383 4 speed posted previously and it is as nice as it looks inside and out and mechanically, high teens is an absolute steal. Most cars you see advertised as a true bb 4 speed a body are not correct. Even if the car is not restored but mostly rust free and complete and mechanically sound it is a rarity. Almost every real bb 4 speed a body that you see advertised unless a concourse resto is missing many key parts like radiator, fanshroud, oil pan, manifolds, correct carburetor, intake etc. All those things cost big money today. Also believe it or not there is quite price difference between the same year bb a body auto and 4 speed car. Often people throw around numbers of what they think the car is worth but truly the market decides and I’ll tell you most cars are not complete or done right so a survivor that is complete and even with wear and patina is often worth more than you think. Avg market values and being able to buy a real car that is complete and correct is a big difference. Example my car a complete mostly original car with one repaint in 1991 is one of 9 or 12 made in 67 depending on different sources. Therefore the mkt value may say $35,000-$40,000. I say the problem is finding a nice one to actually buy. That is where the difficulty comes into play. To actually find one and buy may be quite a bit more. How bad does someone want it? The opportunity may not come along again?

I didn't know they came with a bench 4 speed until I saw one, would have sought one out if I knew.

I would have no problem spending up in the 20's for a beautiful garaged survivor. But hey, that's me. And if I won the lottery, I'd have the exhaust manifolds removed, cleaned up, boxed and stored. And a very expensive set of custom headers made, and drive that sucker almost everywhere I went. Except winter and rainy days. Life is short.
 
I don't see dog dish as standard or optional for years 66-69.

Never thought they weren't available at some point.
