I’m wondering if the factory hyper pak exhaust manifolds ever come up for sale and what price they go for. I stopped by an old friends house and he has a set of them on a 170, I’m assuming was a factory hyper pak engine.

Looks like the one in the picture has been cut and re-welded for some reason. Why would you assume it;s an original Hyper Pack engine? They didn't come with Offenhauser intake manifolds or Holley carburetors.

Because of the racing history of the engine that I didn’t mention here. I know the intake manifold and carb were swapped at one point.

Well I would certainly question it. That intake and carb is most certainly NOT an upgrade from the Hyper Pack stuff.

Why would I question it? He’s not selling the engine and frankly that engine will probably never end up in a car again. I’m just asking if manifolds come up for sale and what they go for.

I've never seen them before, so I can't say one way or the other, but I'm interested to hear from someone who does know about them. I always just assumed the factory hyper paks used steel tube headers, however I've seen the factory cast iron BB headers from around the same vintage.

Ok, then don't worry about it. Since the manifolds are not reproduced that I know of, they ain't gonna be cheap. They come up so seldom, I wouldn't know where to begin. Aussie headers can be had cheaper I'm sure and will produce more power.

Thats badass, looks good to me. Probably cracked at sometime its is over 59 years old, That's a gem for sure. A guy seen my Dart at work and told me his friends had the hyper pak intake and how crazy he thought it looked sticking out farther than the master cylinder.

I asked if he would sell me the whole engine and his response was wait til I’m gone then you can come take it away. Supposedly this engine was in a car that held the land speed record in the 70’s.

I sold a set a couple of years ago, while I can't disclose the selling price, they are not cheap. The man I sold them to was going to repop them, haven't seen that happen as of yet. That was the only set I ever saw, bought them at the Indy swap and sold them the following year at the Vegas Mopar show. They are very cool and I wanted to use them on one of my cars, but the offer was too good to pass up...

I have seen a couple original hyper pak manifolds and even owned one that I ended up selling. I know those are going for over $1000 now. Seems to me that the exhaust manifolds don’t come up for sale nearly as much and price would be reasonably higher the the intakes.

after seeing the beginning of this thread, I Googled them and there is quite a few pics on the Internet. Most of the better pics are shown on the Sl/6 Forum. I saw one(rear manifold) which looked almost exactly like the one shown by the OP. So, maybe the weld on the collector end of rear manifold is a somewhat common repair or modification. I saw many with visible casting numbers, and others without casting numbers, so maybe someone has already repopped a small run of them.

That is freaky!! The set I have I got from the second owner in 1972. The rear manifold was cut and welded in almost the exact place. I was told it was to clear the steering on a 32 Stude Hobby Stock roundy round car. That being said, they don't come up often and sell right away. A set came up on epay a couple of years ago and sold dirt cheap in a matter of minutes. They are not being reproduced, yet. There is a set down in Oz with the intent to see about reproducing them. The same company that bought the rights and molds to make the dutra dual manifolds. Here is my rear manifold.

Is the set that Mike Sargent in CA bought? If so he came by my house and we talked about his project.

Very cool stuff. I blew up the picture, the head is a Star head, so that is an early head which is cool. And if you look on the rear manifold you can see Wilford Day. He set many records at Bonneville with a Lancer and a Barracuda. That might be the Lancer motor, he set records with the 225 in the Barracuda.

Yes, chances are it’s the Lancer motor. It would be neat to see that engine back in a car.

Not so true Dan. I have read lately that there were 12 engines built. At least 7 went into the Daytona Valiants, 1 went into the XNR and 1 into the Asymmetrical. All 170 cubic inches. Did one go into the St. Regis, I don't know. Safe to say the other one went out the back door into some sleeper cars.

New Zealand NEW headers Can be hàd Even CHEAPER (& built better) I've Exported both Sources to the UK, Brazil & Africa.
Cheers T.
PS: YES agree with above, there was a 170 Hypapac Package Cars put together for the qualifying for the then new Circuit racing class of Falcons, Studebaker's, Corvairs etc ( Remember the Dealer souped Corvair that was Marketed ? ) + the Media Specials for Daytona Class that Daytona eventually dropped , because Chrysler won 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 etc...
The info is out there if your dearly departed Dads library Is big enough.
Cheers T.

My dads friend has a NOS set of these manifolds as well as all the other hyperpack stuff including a correct carb...not for sale of course but cool....can’t be many NOS ones out there....I used to have pictures somewhere.

If they were so good, where's the tubular versions? That looks pretty simple to make. Heck, the angel wing cast iron hemi headers were F'n crazy looking but no one ran them because tubular full length headers were so much better. Maybe a class thing? Have welder, will make.

The Hyperpak exhaust manifolds dont come up for sale that often. I got mine years ago. Hopefully soon they will be going into my 61 valiant.
