I believe you can knock the plug out from the top If distributor is out. Look down.
***BUT*** Do so at your own risk. A longtime mopar racer and professional engine builder told me in all his 40 years he installed ONE. Never ever replaced one. The one he installed was because the block came to him without one.
My opinion.
Rolls should be there soon I hope.

So you think I should just leave it in there? Will the machinist be ok with that? Will the oil passage get properly cleaned leaving it in?
 
My machinist hot tanked all sorts of blocks. He only ever installed one. The reason I asked him is he sold me a freshly machined shortblock 340 from his personal stash. I asked him about the plug. He said leave it alone. When I bought the block from him he replaced all the cam bearings for free, so If he thought it needed changing he would have.
It's your engine tho. Goes against what 90% of people will say.

I will leave it and if my machinist wants it out he can take it out. Thanks for the heads up!
 
Got some work done to my heads (or head) I worked on the exhaust bowls some more and tried to take the ring down some like @318willrun suggested. I also got my valve guides cut down on the head I'm working on. I fell pretty good about it now I think I'm finally finished with this one I am gonna gasket match the intake side and then I'm moving on to the other side. I have a bunch a pictures they probably will be out of order but here goes.

Here are some pics of my junk summit headers I gotta clean them up and paint them. I am take my dremal to them and try and clean the port opening up it looks awfully rough to me. Would it help to gasket match the headers to the heads?

@4spdragtop. They work great thanks again here are the mandrel I got. Good thing I ordered two I bent one I didn't seat it all the way in the dremel and it went haywire on me and bent the mandrel.

Got some more work done today. Got the intake side gasket match and started the second head. I'm gonna go back and work on the other one a little more per advice. But I'm making progress that's all that matters to me at this point! I also got a new mopar Ignition control unit on the way.

I have decided since I am painting my car orange now (fk5 burnt orange) that I am going to go with a blue engine so I'm going to order the mopar original blue engine paint.
 
Not to blow your high and also very much not to say your work is going unappreciated, but again all in all budget-wise... I still think$175 Magnum long block from the Virginia Beach Pick-n-Pull and a $200 if you bought it brand new intake manifold and a $40 fuel pump would have you smiling and burning rubber by the end of the month. Just trying to keep that bug in your brain for backup. Now back to our regularly scheduled program...

Lol the deeper I get into it the more I start agreeing with you! Plus I'm sure my wife and kids would enjoy a weekend trip go the beach. Well until they find out why we are there hahaha.
But in the end I will have a brand new engine built by me with my two hands that's alot more satisfying than just any old running engine from a pick and pull.
 
Look at what came today I'm so excited about this piece of the puzzle. A true mopar performance part I love it. Lol ok I'm a dork I know but I'm really impressed and excited about it. Thanks @SGBARRACUDA

I got some new parts tonight I'm really excited about. Pics to come soon....
 
Ok here are the goodies I picked up last night. I meet this guy at work and we got to talking and he is a fellow a body guy he has a 74 duster with a 340 4 speed. It's a really beautiful car he restored (or fixed up whatever you want to call it) he did it on a budget very similar in fashion to the way I'm doing mine. He found a original 340 4 speed it's all stock never took apart he did all the paint and the interior himself. Anyway long story short. He had some parts leftover that he sold me I got a really clean 1970 instrument cluster it needs to be repainted but the gauges are alot nicer than mine and it has the 120 speedo vs my 100. And I like the 70 cluster better than the 75 because it don't have all those egr lights and all that crap looks alot cleaner and simpler looking. Also I got a 1970 duster steering wheel. My steering wheel is in bad shape I found a 1974 one on here exactly like mine but the guy never responded to my PM so I bought this one. I'm a little concerned that it won't fit it is somewhat bigger in diameter than the original one. But it is gorgeous. It's in really good shape. Does anyone know If the shaft spline is the same? Did it change between years?

I think your ok with the steering wheel. my '74 has that style of steering wheel

Thanks I'm gonna pull mine and inspect it to make sure it'll fit! Its bigger I'm not sure what that will do to the feel of the steering. But it's in such great shape I couldn't not buy it! I'm not crazy about putting the Plymouth emblem in a dodge but it was just too nice to pass up lol.
As far as the cluster goes I'm gonna have to do a little modification with a file to get my wiper mechanism to fit because mine has the wiper wash feature and this one don't have the cutout for the button

I like the bigger steering wheels because I put manual steering in both of my Dusters. My '76 still has a small wheel, I may change it out

I have a brand new power steering gearbox. Lol kinda wish I would have went manual know lol
