My Duster was stolen

Best of luck sir! What's the real bummer is this is the world we live in, a lot of people have no values, morals or self-respect.

I want to go home and lock up my car now.
Congratulations, dustermaniac. I've gotten that call, and this is probably the most stressful part, waiting to see what's left.

After the cops are done, do your own BIG LEBOWSKI and look for any evidence in the car

My Duster has been found!!!! The detective called me this morning and let me know that he has found my car in a storage unit somewhere in North Carolina. He said he found the person who purchased the car and that the person "paid a lot of money" for the car. As of what condition it is in, I do not know. The detective is still investigating and has told me he will contact me shortly. Now it is a wait and see. I still believe that my stepdaughter sold these vehicles illegally but that's all the information I have as of now.

Happy for you, here in Minnesota! I've had stuff stolen and know the sick, angry feeling. Hoping for the best for you and includes serving justice to the ones involved. I feel bad for the guy who who bought it ( if he bought it in good faith) because his money is probably long gone.
At least some things are looking up for you! That's just awesome.

Sry to hear of then"loss". It's fishy for certain cause who would steel a Sonata! Vins are tracable to some degree and by law your entitled to get them back if found. She will have to deal with the forgery and current possession holder of the car directly. Search local Craigslist and adds. Find your baby(s).

Good luck!!! I know you've had a rough ride!!

Well at least it wasn't crushed. I'm curious as to who he "bought" it from?

Don't believe anyone, long time ago I had tires stolen off my car. Cops said more than likely I'd never see them again. Well I drove all over three county's till I found them on another car. I got the tag number after I talked to the dude who said he bought them from another person. Turns out he couldnt come up with the other "guy". He went to jail. Do not feel remorse for anyone, they're crooks.

Great that you are actualy getting some information now!
Hoping your car is in good shape and that you are coming thru this in the best possible shape.

I’m in the Charlotte area if you need someone to check it out and I might be able to find a inexpensive place to store it at a friends place where I currently store one of my cars.

Something tells me this guy was involved.....

I certainly hope that this was intended to be a joke and if it was it’s in poor taste.

It was, and it is. My apologies.

I just thought it was maybe a little weird to offer to store a recovered car for a guy that has had his car stolen when he stored it with someone, but it didn't come out right. Again, my sincerest apologies. I meant nothing malicious

I thought that that may have been your intent so we are cool. My only thought was that the car could be impounded in which case that isn’t cheap plus the owner is in California.

If it's in storage in the far western end of NC, I won't be surprised at all. I still to this day, as I stated in this thread several years ago.....swear I saw the OP's car headed West on I-40, near exit 44. If it is out towards Franklin, Robbinsville, Murphy, etc, I would be willing to go put eyeballs on it if that were allowed by the Police.

And why can't you get it back?
Because the detective in Johnston County who knows where the car is has told me I am responsible to pay this guy who purchased the car over 2 yrs of storage fees. I do not agree with this and have questioned the detective as to WHY?? I have to pay storage fees on a vehicle that was STOLEN from me. He will not give me the name of the person who has the Duster and has said that If I do not fly to NC and meet with him and arrange to get the car then he was going to pull the title off the stolen car registry in NC and let the guy keep the car. I am out of work with a rotator cuff tear and cannot afford to fly to NC nor pay this guy who knows how much to try to get my car back. So he has painted me into a corner.

Dam, that sucks about ur car. If they sold something that wasn’t theirs u should be able to get it back, less of course it is stripped and crushed. Kim

That's not ethical. Sounds to me like you need to go over his head to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations. He's not the end all be all. He's doing something illegal if what you say is true. You need to call him on it.
