My Duster was stolen

That's not ethical. Sounds to me like you need to go over his head to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations. He's not the end all be all. He's doing something illegal if what you say is true. You need to call him on it.
I'm going to try to see if the State Investigative Bureau can help me out. I'm calling them tomorrow and going to run this by them and see what I can do.... Otherwise I do not know what to do And what I am saying is true. I have NO REASON to fabricate anything related to this.

I wasn't saying that. I simply meant maybe you left something out you forgot.......or maybe didn't know.

Find a lawyer that’ll take it up on pro bono. If that don’t work, social media frenzy them

Because the detective in Johnston County who knows where the car is has told me I am responsible to pay this guy who purchased the car over 2 yrs of storage fees. I do not agree with this and have questioned the detective as to WHY?? I have to pay storage fees on a vehicle that was STOLEN from me. He will not give me the name of the person who has the Duster and has said that If I do not fly to NC and meet with him and arrange to get the car then he was going to pull the title off the stolen car registry in NC and let the guy keep the car. I am out of work with a rotator cuff tear and cannot afford to fly to NC nor pay this guy who knows how much to try to get my car back. So he has painted me into a corner.

That is basically the law, if that guy is the one who did not steal the car.

I had a friend buy on old triumph motorcycle basket case from a flea market with no title, he restored the bike, and when he went to get a title, WV requires a LEO to inspect the serial numbers it came up stolen.

He had to hold a completely restored vintage bike, until the owner could claim it, all he got for his restoration efforts, he was able to charge the actual owner $5.00 a day for storage. It was his fault for not getting the title first.

Dam, that sucks about ur car. If they sold something that wasn’t theirs u should be able to get it back, less of course it is stripped and crushed. Kim
The truck was stripped bare and her old boyfriend was caught at the scrap yard while bringing the carcass over the scales. The Hyundai, I have no information on where that vehicle is. This whole thing sucks. I just want my Duster back. My late wife bought me this car in 2000 and I promised her I would never sell the car. And that b&*%$ knew this and went ahead and sold the car off foe her financial gain....

Beg borrow or steal money to get you a lawyer, that "person" was in possession of stolen property. Even he is out of whatever he paid for it, never a legitimate sale, and I'm not totally sure but charges can be brought against him for buying that stolen property. This cop and the dude could be good buddy's and you're getting the run around hoping you let it go.

Don’t give up, take it one step at a time. You may find a helpful ear higher up, and may be able to supply you with the solution. I undersrand the legal ramifications of this, once you file a stolen car report, it must go through channels to be removed from the system with a conclusion. Follow the directions and maybe you will be able to negotiate a storage settlement that you can handle. The bottom line here is be patient and diligent, if it’s in the cards the car will be yours again. If it doesn’t happen, you must come to terms with that, and your memories with your wife, and look to her for guidance. She will answer you, and your heart can live in peace with that. Prayers as always, Geof

Exactly my thoughts. Two years worth of storage fees could add up. The guy who bought the car and the cop could each walk away with half. They're in bed together. I can just about guarantee it.

Most places can’t legally charge a storage fee if they don’t have a secure fenced compound. It was a stolen car and he probably knew it. Don’t let this go. U can get it back, after all he was storing it for himself, not u. Kim

The guy deserves to be repaid for storage of the vehicle he had no idea was stolen.

Sounds like this guy is a walking liability. He has been given help in the form of money donated...,directly and by auction , an ear , sympathy by many..etc..
He cant keep what he cant pay for. His wife died, he was sick or some ****. Tom helped this guy... I was not recommending it. I told him this story will never end, no amount of money will fix this guys woes... Tom is dead now and this clown still on here with the "help me" tone. Read between lines.
Plan in life or you'll be planned for.
Birds of a feather, company you keep, keep your enemies even closer.... he did and she stole/sold his ****.

Start over.

Yeah. You may be right. Especially if he didn't know it was stolen. I know in Georgia a title is not necessary on older cars. If it was presented to him with no title, he may not have known.

Are you sure the detective is not going to arrest you. It sounds mighty fishy a detective needs you go to NC so he can help you retrieve your car. If you are not in the wrong, I see no reason for any decent human to hold YOUR car for storage fees. He is storing stolen property

Sorry to read Tom. Of all the vehicles the Duster is the one you wanted. It's all intact, so take the positives outta this situation and do what is legally and safely possible to get it back. Whatever is going on with the cop and the other guy doesnt sound right. Cover your ***. Document stuff and get names badge #'s etc etc.
No way I woulda left anything behind with that pair.

Wow...this is terrible, I hope you can get the Duster back. Tom, remember I bought your polyglas tires from you and the letters were painted to match your car? I still have them and never used them yet....I’ll say some prayers for you bud and again, hope you can see your car again.

I'm calling Bullshit on the sellers of the car, the buyer and Barney Fife.
Who in the right mind believes any of this would take any money to resolve, ZERO.
Do us a favor, go back to NC and get your car.

Sir with all due respect, Please keep your opinions to yourself. You come off as a very rude person. If you have nothing constructive to say please just dont say anything.

Im trying to get a resolution on this, And for those who decide to cast their negative rude comments upon me, please do me a favor, keep your comments to yourself. Until you have walked a mile in my shoes, you have NO right to criticize me. I would not do that to anyone else no matter what.

Do you have an idea of what the current possessor of the vehicle is required to be paid for storage? It would be helpful to know what that figure is if you want to fight it.

I'm not in the wrong in this Read the link to the story and explain to me how I am in the wrong here??? Please, Im waiting to hear how I did anything wrong except trust my stepdaughter...... have no criminal record whatsoever. I am required to be bonded in my employment and have a clean record.

I'm not being negative toward you. I don't know what kinda hick laws NC has, but here in Idaho the seller and buyer of stolen merchandise would be in jail. The cop would be out of a job. there are no legal hoops or fees waged to the victim

Stolen is stolen. possession of stolen property is a crime, except for maybe NC.
Have you thought about contacting the Feds to investigate the corrupt cop.

Ill call the NC division of Motor Vehicles tomorrow and see what I can do on that level. From there I guess I could try the attorney general of NC???? I'm not sure. I only was posting here today to seek advice. I am not looking for anything else except maybe someone who could steer me in the right direction. I am 2700 miles from NC and not sure how to handle this. I only want my car back.
