Easiest cheapest way to fix dent

You did good compared to me using a rattle can. My finger starts to give out after the first can.
I really hate to see you do that but what the heck better than it sitting and rusting away. Give her your best shot Chryslerkid good so far.
Just remember to keep all the other cars away from your painting because over spray carries a long way.

I appreciate the advice and sentiments. I will keep this thread updated with the rest of the paint job. It’s slow going with two little kids however I am learning a lot as I try to perfect this process.

I appreciate all the advice! I am doing this on the cheap. I am not a body paint guy. Yes, I am spray painting the entire car with spray cans. And no, I am not investing hundreds or thousands of dollars in this project. I just want a ten footer paint job that I will not worry about scratching when I burn the tires off the car. Lol. I’ll do my best and post pictures as things progress. As I said I am doing this on a budget and a timeline. Kids wife work= no time. And I have decided not to drop thousands on a professional paint job that will deter me into never driving the thing.
Thousands and thousands.just sayin.
Not reccomending it in any way, but have pulled off painting machinery with a roller...

Update on first panel painted. Hood has been sanded at 220, 320 epoxy primered rattle can, wet sanded 400 then Rust-Oleum blues two coats, then 3 coats of rattle can 2k clear coat. Thoughts everyone? Should I continue with the rest of the car?

Looks really good kid!! Nice work thats a hard job to pull off with rattle cans id say you did it tho!! Looks good enough to be a head turner. Me and buddy always called those type cars 30 footers. They look amazing from 30 feet away. Lol

I have to say that looks pretty decent. And as you said, its a learning process.

I am stripping down the front end to paint the engine bay and K frame and fenders. These are Pre pictures for documentation purposes.

Lots of little nooks and crannies to clean and scuff. Better the prep, nicer end result.

I’ll hopefully have more pictures of progress this weekend. Just a little elbow grease!

Well not as far along as I thought I’d get. Sanded down the driver side fender to bare metal. Sprayed self etching primer. That is all.

Looking good. Are you painting in the street and who's cars are those?

The cars in the background are neighbors cars as well as my own. And yes this far I’ve been painting outside on the steeet. That may change soon. I may start painting inside my garage although very little room to do so.

10 footer and rattle cans using the OEM paint as a base? Don't sweat the dents. Just rough it up and spray.

Finally had time to sand and primer the engine bay.... base coat/clear coat pictures to come folks!

Ok, you're just killing me. I used to paint locomotives and cars and boats and anything else that came my way. You are doing all hard work, the cleaning, the prepping, the sanding and taping. All of it and it looks like you're doing a really good job of it. And then you're using spray cans? I'm not knocking the work you're doing but seriously, shooting paint with a gun isn't that hard and with a little practice most people can do a pretty good job. I gotta believe spray cans are going cost you a lot more than shooting it with a gun and even a half ways decent paint job will look a lot better than the best spray can job. I would like to make a couple suggestions. When shooting your panels and smaller areas you should tape them off from other areas of the car so that they can be sprayed individually. That will help you from getting dry spots and tiger striping. When you do the roof it also would help to have one person on each side spraying at the same time to keep the dry spots to a minimum. As for spray cans, I use them a lot and they can produce a super finish but on smaller items only. I've tried it with spray cans also. Just trying to help with my past experience. Good luck. It truly looks like you're getting the best job out of those spray cans that you could expect.

On reason good results can be had with acrylic enamel/urethanes is the speed of the reducer. A slower reducer will give a wetter glossier look. If using bc/cc this is not a factor.
Five things ???? about auto paint in the can, vs spray cans in general is 1. The amount of solids 2. gloss hardner 3 Speed of reducer 4. effects on it from UV 5. the quality of the spray pattern
LIke said above, hvlp guns can he had for cheap and a good painter can do plenty good with them with some practice and knowledge. Auto acrylic urethane can be found as good stuff and cheaper than bc/cc. The work in sanding, tape, sanding primers, wax grease remover, tape, is high and why not find a way to do better than spray cans?
I know these statement will case a lot of disagreement, and that's fine.

As others have said, good prep help leads to a good end result. It’s a slow process but it looks like you’re getting there!

If I had a car across the street from anyone painting, I would have that shut down pretty quick. Your overspray would be everywhere.

Not getting any disagreement from me barbee6043 I think you couldn't have said it any better.
