Anybody running 440 4006452 heads on a 383?

Flat top, with a 4.310 bore. 014 stroke on crank and 020 out. This was a motor built for super stock drag racing.
 
Get ur builder to grind the crank for a Chevy rod, then get 1 set appropriately .100 thou longer. Or buy new pistons. Kim
Thanks Kim looking into new pistons now, keeping the 516 heads and adding 1.74 exhaust valves.
 
Just all the way around. I much prefer a closed chamber head....and you already have them. I would put big valves in the 516s, and get a zero deck height piston for that 383. Hardened seats on a street car are really not necessary, especially as light as the A bodies are.
Still working on sourcing near zero deck pistons, so far n/a. Keith Black tech support has been good, but we just don't know why the pistons are so low in the hole. Machine shop has no answers, other than using dome piston, which I don't want for many reasons.....I'd like flat tops within .012 TBD

Here is what you want. Keith Black KB Performance Pistons KB162-030

You have to mill the block to end up with zero deck height. With the above part number you will need to mill about .0265 off the deck to get zero deck height. Most machine shops will deck a block for around 150 bucks. It's highly recommended anyway with a Chrysler block because their deck tolerances were terrible and they are almost always out of spec.

I would go zero deck. If you want the piston in the hole, you can just subtract that amount from the total I posted above.

Sure it's right. That's the way they came. You're not going to find a closer to zero deck piston unless you have one cu$tom made.

Thanks, that's what I was talking with KB tech center today, (mine is 60 over). The block is already decked is what was confusing me .... Going to ask the machine shop to measure and give me the deck height.
 
If your interested in building power above 3600rpm BB. Open chamber way to go. Dont ask me how I know. Proper cam unless compression is unworthy closed is economical.

So, closed chamber engines won't make power above 3600? Somebody better tell a LOT of former Stock Eliminator record holders.

Yes street car. But I'm not the one who said closed chamber heads don't power above 3600. That's simply untrue. I am trying to get to the bottom of that statement.
 
All around streetcar IMO 3.91 gear BB 2" headers 1000cfm Open chamber ported heads all I need to beat anyones *** on the road. At least so far...forget the nitrous.

Well sure, but not everyone's version of a "street car" is the same. I like yours though. lol

Your combo would suck the life out of a 383 on the street. you won't be beating much on the street with this combo in a 383.

Again, this is not a cross country set up...lol But a town to town exitement
Which I probably would prefer. My 65Dart magnum project will foot that bill

I've gone from closed to open chamber heads three times.. She's no race car, just want a 9.5/1 street car, I can enjoy and sell it....
