[IMPORTANT] A word about Scammers

all good info, save for one thing, the opinions posted by the majority seem to lean toward the broad brush as painting those of us who don't use paypal, as thieves or scammers and im defending the opposing side, don't paint us all with that brush:soapbox:

Perhaps my post came off wrong and I'm about to edit it. I'm not disparaging SELLERS who are cash only. My message is to cash only BUYERS. I would never send cash in an envelope to a strange seller EVER. If we can't meet, there's no deal. Likewise, I will not western union or Walmart them money. I MIGHT send a usps money order but I'm still going to be a little apprehensive about it.

its all good  i do understand the apprehension, but the feedback system does work pretty well here, and im sure there exceptions to the rule, like I said the majority of people seem to have the thinking that if they wont take PayPal, then you must be a thief or scammer, which we aren't. :steering:

It's two different arguments discussing buying on FABO and selling here. With reference to scammers who SELL on FABO: Those of you who are "cash only" buyers have no recourse to the seller who gives you (the buyer) nothing or not what you thought what you were buying. It would be idiotic to put cash in an envelope and mail it to a stranger. Walmart and western union are the same thing as sending cash. Paypal does tend to favor the buyer over the seller so that's the time to use it. Regular credit cards if the buyer will take them can do chargebacks if the seller rips you off. Postal money orders are harder to get back on a fraud claim. It's important to look at the sellers background and don't spend more than you can afford to lose.
i would like to offer a solution - at least for dealing with me anyways. I am somewhat new. I have not bought or sold here before. Red flags for sure. I will, "pretty much" only deal with cash - wal mart transfer - or cash from hand to hand in person. More red flags. You don't KNOW me. More red flags. Probably enough red flags already MOST will not even attempt to purchase something until a track record has been established. That is very understandable and I can't blame anyone for feeling that way as I am same way myself.

soooooo.......

Until I have established a reputable track record - I will agree to do this:

The buyer sends the agreed upon amount of money to ANY very reputable person on here that THEY CHOOSE using WHATEVER payment method they want to use. Provided of course they can get someone from here to do that for them. Then let me know who it is. I will get ahold of them or them get ahold of me to let me know you made the payment to them. THEN after they receive the payment and I am made aware of it - I will photo or record me mailing item from post office(if post office will let me as I don't know if video and pics are allowed at post office)... send you evidence at least I sent "something", so you KNOW you will be expecting something for sure in the mail and about when you should get it.... THEN after you receive the item and inspect to make sure I did not lie about the part or tried to hide something from you THEN you contact the "holder of the money" and inform him/her that all good, they get my info and send me cash in the mail.... oooops not lol.... walmart money transfer.....
I realize the "holder of money" will have a cost to do this, probably on both ends of the stick... < I > will eat this cost plus 5 bucks, or 10 if have to be for fuel to goto a walmart

Yeah I will not make much on some things but I am willing to start from the bottom up to show you MY WORD is who I am.... I have made many a deal in my lifetime just with a handshake.... you folks do not know this or even know me... but you will

Would this be acceptable? Fair?

TRUST is not given - it is earned!!!

Agree with TJ, sold/bought LOTS on here(thank you). I have used MO both in buying and selling 2 or 3 times. Fees are brutal, last one I got cost me approx $10 to cash it.
It's due to our banks/post offices not sharing a "system" between our 2 countries. Hell when dad bought the cuda, Dad sent a MO to the seller for $500 deposit. Seller got it, went to bank, teller didnt know what it was lol. Deposited it and put it on "hold". Bank never followed up to verify it was good.
99.9% of the time Paypal. I have sent US cash in an envelope, the member was shocked, but it was only $25 and the only way to accept $.
For me the PayPal or lack of is a nuisance, not an indicator, it's an individual's choice but 2000 was 18 years ago.
My wife works for the Royal Bank. I cannot send you an e-mail money transfer if you reside in the U.S.A.
I can pop a money order in the mail, payable in us funds.

I do my best to accomodate a seller, but i wouldnt put cash in the mail.

I have learned sellers that have good ratings, high post counts and are very active across many threads are the most trustworthy. I will not ever consider buying from a newb ever.
If its too good to be true, it likely is.

I don't think you have to go to this extreme....You do have a lot of red flags....but we all have to start somewhere....start off by posting some questions on the site....maybe answering a few if you are knowledgeable about mopars.....just establish a reputation on the site.....maybe list a part here or there.....start out with low dollar items......build up some feedback and trust will come with it......don't get me wrong...there are some people on here that say "NO PAYPAL , NO TRANSACTION....I still get them and you know what, you just have to accept it and move on....If they can't trust you, I feel they don't really want the part that bad.....my opinion....

As a cash only type of seller, I appreciate your posting. I did not take it wrong at all. It made me think - I might have real hard time selling - I better come up with idea to make it easier for all involved with buying from me. Very thankful for you comments. I "think" I have a solution for folks dealing with me - I posted it a few minutes ago - it might also be used by others with the same difficulties early on I didn't realize I might encounter... thank you

Thank you for you comment. I joined this site last year "i think" not really sure when, but joined because most of questions i typed into google pointed here... I used it a little bit then got busy on other things and had not been back for quite a while until... I needed to try n figure out why my car wont start. I still have not asked that question here - I am trying to read lots of what is allready posted "SOMEWHERE" already on here without taking up someone elses time with my problem. The answer is here - I just have to find it..... well... since I have been looking at a lot more threads I realized maybe I can sell here... I dont sell long distance as of cash has hard time traveling in the wind... but I thought maybe walmart transfer... worked sending kids money when they need it... whew much too often lol... but when I started reading this thread I got concerned I might not get to sell because of no reputation established and the cash thing.... I really do not have a problem with "for a while" using a middle man... i do what it takes to get the job done, if a middle man is what i need to get started , then thats what i will do,,, not a problem
but the point i was making is - i came here for the super knowledge lots of these folks have and share freely to fix my chit not to sell... but i thought maybe this could b the place i could sell long distance as never done it before... willing to do whatever it takes....
thank you for your response

And another good point to make is , believe me, .....If you don't follow through with a transaction and make the buyer happy they can and will call you out in the forum and shame you publically......they have that power....so why would you risk your reputation over a few measly dollars.....just my opinion

I've been buying and selling parts for 40 years.I have always used postal money orders .I refuse to let pay pal profit off my transactions. I have never been screwed or screwed anyone . I will continue doing my sales and buying this way .Feeding these rich banking corporations and the billionairs behind them is the biggest scam of all

Joey I am glad you are attempting to protect the forum community. Reality is scammers are getting worse and will continue too. I am a long time member of another forum involded in the shooting sports. The administrator there devloped a reporting system on the buyers and sellers for products sold in their classifieds. This system enables a forum member to have instant info on the rating of a potential buyer or seller, it works great. FABO should have a system such as this to protect it's membership.
I dont like PayPal and have made dozens of transitions utilizing USPS money orders, never had an issue. Thanks for bashing a reliable form of payment that has been in place for decades and has been used be millions of reputable people
Perhaps a proactive stance would be the best offense against scammers.

I agree with you, but the part about a reporting system is in place on FABO....the feedback system....see the green red, and gray numbers under our avatar....that is your positive, negative, and neutral feedbacks which can be viewed by anyone before they make a purchase or sell an item.....Joey does what he can.....Users need to view feedback and determine if the want to do business with that person

Thanks for refreshing my bad memory I knew the rating system was in place here just blew it out of my old brain. I hope more members such as myself use it, I know I will.
That's for keeping me honest on the topic.
Job well done, sorry Joey.

I've used paypal for 16yrs and never had a problem with it. I buy and have sold things on ebay using paypal. If they don't use paypal I ask if they will take a check, wait 7 to 10 days to be sure it clears before sending the item. Most are good with that. If they insist on a money order I wont do the transaction.(too many bad stories about them)
Also with paypal you can use a credit card for the transaction, There may be a small fee but I would rather pay a small fee than be out a few 100 because of a scammer.

Internet is worldwide. Anyone take a money order from Nigeria?? Didnt think so.
I have cashed my last US money order. Charge a good chunk for processing/cashing.
PayPal or cash(which I have sent in the mail to US before)

To be honest on the selling side. I only try to take PayPal as friends and family. If you take regular PayPal and they use a credit card they can do a charge back at any time and PayPal automatically gives them there money back right away. So you can loose out your item and your money.

Sorry..not selling to Nigeria or anywhere else in the world.....US sales only....so yeah postal M.O. Works for me

I didnt quote you or talking about anyone in particular, but you chose to single me out?? :wtf:
Maybe you should change your "policy"??
Obviously the amount of times you bump your ads there is a problem. Price? Form of payment?
Thanks SO MUCH for what you contribute here to FABO and the US Postal Service. :poke:

I've been selling items on all FABO, FCBO, FBBO and trucks. I emphasize I'll take a U.S.P.S. Money Order. Don't have Pay Pal and don't want it. I've never cheated anyone, and have been prompt at shipping and emailing the buyer a tracking number. I have taken one check. I have taken M.O. from Wal-Mart. I would sell in person if the buyer wants to pick up. I have sold and shipped to Canada. The buyers have all had a friend on this side(which I'm sure you all have), take delivery of the part and they pick it up from them. This is how I'll continue. If people don't want to buy, eventually when I get tired of it laying around it'll go for scrap.
