1 0F 9 , 1 0F 4 AUTOs only 3 known
............well, which is it?

I know, right? And what about the VIN on the trunk lip? NO MENTION of it anywhere. If that car was 100% original it might get close. But color change and an older restoration, plus the engine number thing?

Does anybody know if the "Julian Date" crap they spouted is true? I was under the impression there was only one place on the engine that had the partial VIN.

Julian date is 4 characters. The first number is the year the next three are the numbers of the day of the year.
So an example would be 9028 would be 69 for the 9. 028 would = january 28.
So Jan 28 1969.

That entire ad reads like a tourettes episode...its laughable.
It would be "iffy" even if written on any plain 'ol car, let alone one with an asking price of $1.3 mil.
Cars of this nature (if legit) would be easily represented, cataloged and auctioned off by global auction houses & big name sellers, to the point, the cars owner would be fighting the offers off with a stick if the car didnt sell privatley before it ever was made public..., not posting it on bay for the small $99. listing fee!
There are no "mystery" e-body hemi drop top cars anymore as I believe All have been accounted for in someway or another. Now we have one that suddenly get put back to together with scrubbed numbers, new paint color change (ouch) and the fairy tale of a prodigal engine that came back home after decades...
My guess is, no legit house would touch it...or they know better than to even ask one to.
Its really that simple.
Someones fooling somebody, or trying to.

Well if you read the ad, it reads as if not only the Julian Date is there but also the partial VIN. Was there a second place on these engines for the partial VIN? I was not aware of such.

I have never heard of there being a Julian date on the motors. But then I don't know everything yet.
Just sounds like a bunch of crap to me.
Never heard of the 10,000 day calendar being used on a motor either but it is used on Transmissions in some cases.

Mechanic's Dream: 1995 Saturn SL2

I say more like mechanics nightmare! LOL
Put a 318 in it and rock it.

The Challenger? IDK, my bullshit meter just got pegged & clogged all at once.

Seriously though, 1.25 million?
Give me a brake.
This is a case of a crack head swinging for the fence with his used tooth pick.

No, of course not. It’s a lame attempt to try to match this motor with the car. With the numbers ground off, there is no way to link this motor to the car. The Julian date, if any, would be cast into the block, which makes no sense, and would not tie this motor to the car anyway, even if it happened to be the same day as the car was assembled. And as for the acid test, for $1.2 large, would you leave that job up to the “next owner”?

Once someone put a grinder to a factory VIN, all bets are off. They know it. Better send Uncle Tony over to scorch his butt!

Admittedly I sold my first car with the same pretense. I told my friend if he doesn't do it burn off everyday I couldn't guarantee the car would stay running...

Has nice "patina" paint!

That was the first time i had ever heard the term patina. Before that it was called "needs and paint job" !
things go in trends.....
  • 80's was paint and modify some... stripes, wheels.... hot rod... ya know...
  • by the late 90's the original look was in........ because so many had been "hot rodded"
  • The last 12 years, patina is hot !!!! I just went to a huge Torque Fest, and I tell you there were 20-40k dollar cars that had been professionally repainted to look like "patina"..... What you think is "rust" is professional brown, black, and primer paint. I personally been into "patina" for a long time... (not lowered rat rods mind you, but true patina)

I owned a Saturn sl2 for a while. It was a great, cheap car. As for the ad, sounds honest. The oil burn is normal - it’s from coked up rings. And the cat rattle is probably just the heat shield loose. If it starts and drives and I needed a 40 mpg highway car, I’d drive it. Sold mine for $1000 to a coworker, with working a/c, decent tires, and 175k. I got my money’s worth and so will he.

Some of my favorites also are snowmobile ads. Around here they brag about never being off Trail LOL. That's got to be the funniest...
When you're in the deep snow off Trail the sled keeps cooler and are usually going much slower. When I'm on the groomed Trail I'm wide open...

I have to admit I like the patina look 100 times better that that 80s garbage!! Omg that is horrible and hideous!! So many classic muscle cars were ruined like that. I know I'm gonna get alot of flack by the older people in the group that was doing that in the 80s! But remember I was born in the 80s by the time I got old enough to start noticing muscle cars the whole restoration phase had started! And it was all about factory original, OEM nos , rare survivor barn find cars and making them look original again ie saving them from the garbage look of the 80s haha

I have to say I like the 80's stuff, Dartfreak75. Maybe being born in 59 has something to do with. Loved that period as well as the 60's drag pics. Ducking for cover now...

I like the nostalgic 60s drag cars like the ratty 30s and 40s cars with the altered wheelbase and the gassser front suspension. Like the ramchargers high and mighty!! That is cool and even later in the 70s and 80s I like the drag cars with the crazy paint and flashiness. I just don't like it when that is incorporated into a street car. I'm sure that was alot of it. Young guys trying to make there cuda look like the one they saw ronnie Sox or whoever they saw at the track.
