Front Drum Question

Hi,
I've been doing research into changing the front drums on my Scamp and i know you can use a swedge tool or quality hole saw to cut the swedge on the drum. This is where i lose track of what happens, maybe I'm over thinking it. After the drum is cut and the hub removed, can I just go and buy new drums and install as is with the same studs since the hub centers the drum? Is the swedge on the studs being cut or is it just the drum?

The studs will stay fixed into the hub. New drum simply slips over studs, no reswedge possible or req'd.
 
Will the less expensive 5/8 hole saw work? In a hand held drill motor? I don't know. Drill press and cutting oil would be recommended for either cutting tool.
 
I used a cheapo hand drill and a lot of attention on my part, keep the drilll square to the drum. With 1/2" stud you will need the 11/16" hole saw, 5/8" is to tight and will cut the threads. Cutting oil!

While installing the new drums you may have to "clean up" the studs to get the drum all the way on.

Ace hardware for the holesaw $7-8
