Years back I had a '65 Valiant 200, 273 auto, 4 door. I loved that car, drove it all over the place, had it for years. I sold it and sadly it got parted out.

I had the itch for another, and a friend sold me this '65 Valiant 100, 170 slant 6 and 3 on the tree. Very low optioned, radio delete, no rear arm rests, bench seat, only option is a heater.

I have a '68 318 & 4 speed combo so that's the plan. So far I'm in love :) .. Really brings back memories.

Drove it home on a 2 hour trip on Saturday, it ran pretty poorly due to 5 year old gas, a gummed up carb, a leaking fuel pump, and weak spark. But we made it!

Sounds good and looks good too.

Great looking ride! I wanted one of those really badly when I had access to a 392 Chrysler Hemi for cheap, would have made a bad *** vintage style gasser...

Love the car. I `d like to find one that straight my self.

If I had a chance to get a 392 hemi for cheap, I `d get it and set it in the corner !!

Mike, I let a 63 100 post car go a few years back and have been kicking myself since. That thing looks solid,is it ? The early A's are a favorite of mine.

Floors have some pinholes, due to leaky wiper seals, but body and frame rails are beautiful, completely rust free. It was a great find and very affordable

I wish this was usable. It's just a showpiece. A 241 Dodge Red Ram. Fairly small.

I love your little 2 door post car!!!!

It looks so good without the center grille emblem.

I am going to take the center grille off of my wagon after seeing your car.

Very nice score

Drove it with the slant for a couple months, but that engine is just worn out. So I yanked it out this morning, and grabbed the 318 & 4 speed to get ready to drop in. It'll be a low budget build, mild cam, etc. I managed to find a set of Spitfire Early A headers, full dual exhaust with X pipe, Flowmasters, 340 chrome exhaust tips, V8 engine mounts, V8 center link, and a set of 14x5.5" SBP steel wheels.

You should consider doing what I am thinking about. Make it a four on the tree. I LOVE the column shift on mine. You don't see them anymore. You already have the four positions. Just put a reverse lever in the floor next to the driver's seat. Several early 60s cars came with four on the tree shifters. Most had the reverse lever under the dash.

It's got a bench, I suppose it would just be in the floor where a floor shifter would normally sit? This column's 3 on the tree mechanism needs a rebuild, it's pretty hurtin. Lots of jamming up.
My '50 Fargo has 3 on the tree as well, so I won't be losing out on driving it.

Mine does too. You could actually come right off the reverse fork with a lever coming through the floor. Put a boot around it. It would be located further left and back from the center of the transmission hump. You could actually put the lever under the dash and make it look factory. If you look at the thread where the guys are restoring Butch Leal's Duster, you'll see a good example of a stand alone reverse lever. I'd be really cool I think.

Do you have a link for that thread? I can't seem to find it.

WOW, nice solid little car Ya got there, those are hard to find, and as far as the slanty, rest in peace, a job well done and deserved retirement.

Here's an update.

The '68 318 I picked up wasn't much good as it sat either. Pulled the intake, SUPER gummy inside, as in, everything plugged up. Pulled the cam.. the bearings fell apart in my fingers. Well, off it went to a new owner.

I had picked up a '68 Monaco 500 for parts, and under the hood sat what looked like a 5.2 Magnum. Pulled it out, turns out it's a '71 318 with Magnum heads and an Edelbrock Air Gap intake (carbed) for a Magnum. Someone previous to me was in it because it's got a mild Comp Cam, all new bearings, ARP bolts in the bottom end, a new double roller timing chain, freeze plugs, a Crane Fireball ignition, etc etc. So into the Valiant it goes, behind it a spare 833 I had under the bench. This one is an earlier one, as it has the ball & trunnion tail shaft. I left that alone since it's a straight bolt in application to what was there.
I installed new carpet, installed a '67+ gas pedal assembly, and it's on it's way. The shifter is a little short, I believe it's from a Super Shifter, but the only other ones I currently have are awfully tall.
