What is the best way to switch from my existing rear 10" drums (1.75") sbp on my 67 barracuda with 8 3/4, to big bolt pattern.

Drums and shoes and hardware on rear all needs replacing anyways so the question is what is the best option for backing plates and drums as I plan on buying a new set of axles from Dr.Diff.
Do I need to aquire backing plates used?

B & E bodies, '76 & later F, M & J bodies & more will work, I'm sure. Seems there was something a little different on F/M/J brake assemblies, but just remember to buy shoes/parts for the particular car you get them off of.

Make sure Dr. Diff know you are switching to the later model brakes. The axle bearing location is different because of the brake size & offset.

As Locomotion said,F,M,J bodies with 8 1/4 rears (may) have only 4 bolt axle flange instead of 5.BUT I believe the backing plate is drilled for 5. All that I have come across have 5.

Go here, call these guys, waste no more time;
DoctorDiff Drivetrain Components

Then, good luck in your junk yard and internet searches for the parts. It shouldn’t be to hard to locate.

Not saying they still have them, but I got new rear backing plates from Year One. They have lots of parts that they don't even list. Worth a shot.
