What mufflers for 340

-
Did upu run the Flowmasters on the 340? I have them on my ehem Mustang and like them. But others possibly with 340’s say they get a lot of drone....
I don't like the Flowmasters because they make everything sound like a Mustang. Lol:poke::lol:

I found a huge difference in the way my exhaust sounded from my cam change. I knew I went from completely nuts to Wild. So to say what one would sound like with the 340 doesn't even make sense to me. With which cam? With headers or stock manifolds? Stroked or not stroked? X pipe? T pipe? All the way out the back? Out the side? Location of mufflers? I think there's room here for all kinds of different sounds...

Borla ProXS 40659 or 40658 fit in the stock location and sound pretty bad-***. Don't balk at the price... these are 100% stainless steel, and as they say "you get what you pay for". I have em on my 340 with shorty headers, H-pipe, and 2.5" pipes. Fantastic.

I had Dynomax Super Turbo 2 1/2 with H pipe on the 340 Valiant, they had a drone. The Flowmaster 50 Deltaflow have a nice rumble on the Barracuda, no drone. On the freeway the Barracuda had no exhaust sound, we love that for 200 mls rides!

I am Happy with my dynomax vt with a cross pipe on my 340.
Dynomax VT R.I.P. I too loved the sound and the concept of having the best of both worlds, but it's been a while now since they discontinued the VT. My guess is that anytime there's mechanically moving parts inside a muffler there's going to be warranty issues at some point...

The Jones Max Flow mufflers seem pretty well liked and they're relatively cheap.
They sound weird on my combo for whatever reason but the build quality looks good for the price and the flow-through design is pretty hard to argue with.

So I am going to give you three different examples of Flowmasters.
I have a Maxwedge with Flowmaster 40's that sounds open with the dumps closed that sounds wicked... It does have a cam to back it
up. It does drone slightly at certain RPM.
My friend has a L78 with stock exhaust manifolds and pipes... With 40's sounds rediculus!
At a car cruise I saw a C 3 with a a stock engine, manifold and exhaust with Flowmaster 40's that sounded very healthy.
So I just installed an Accurate Exhaust with stock manifolds and 40's on a 340... can't wait to start it.
It may not be the muffler of choice for racing but if you want to feel like you are driving a hotrod, value for pleasure can't be beat.
Flowmaster haters can knock it all they want, but no other muffler makes you feel like you are riding a Harley in a car!

That unique Flowmaster sound is what makes that company profitable and has made them a household name. The bass notes that are typically lost on a Turbo or straight through muffler with glass packing has given them that signature sound. I can tell a FM muffler blindfolded. The downside of the 40 series is it’s loud and they typically drone like crazy. FM has done a nice job in quieting things down and greatly reducing drone with their 50, 60, and 70 series while keeping that bass, FM sound. People don’t realize that and tend to use the “ dronemaster” description for all FM mufflers. Do they flow like a good turbo or straight- thru? No. But they flow enough for the street, where you spend 99.9% of the time.

I like my flowmaster hushpower pro's but they aren't necessarily quiet!! The 3" are kinda big cans to tuck up in there also

I recently switched from flowmaster super 40s to magnaflow pn 11229 and all I can say is wow. The car sounds 100x better. They were $100 a piece but well worth it in my opinion

Summit 2 chambers. $29.00 Each
418 Stroker,3" exhaust.

That's one beautiful car and sounds lovely! Literally love everything about it, especially the cleanness of the trim. I've been having a hell of a time to get my lower back window portion to sit flat, most likely due to the fact that the vinyl was put on without removing the window and it's probably a little warped from sitting in the trunk for the past 5 years (from PO).

Make sure you look at the Flowmaster youtube video, or chart that describes their muffler sound. They have different mufflers for the desired sound you want. I used the delta flow 40 series and my 360 Duster sounds amazing with no drone. However, I have 2 1/4 pipes with headers.
