So the headliner from Legendary is finally going in my 66’ Barracuda and I hired a professional. He has been doing interiors for over 40 years and his crankiness shows it.

Overall a good guy and he’s a MoPar guy too. So he’s aware of all pitfalls of cloth liner. We don’t have many options for interior install in CT especially close by and experienced. Plus it helps I have a complete parts 66’ Barracuda on site - just in case.

As he installed the bows and matched them from previous headliner and parts car headliner to new. ( never take bows out of old headliner until ready to swap. Colors on bows go to drivers side in special order) and he is having a tough time stretching the new liner. Day 2 he brought in heat and it’s 70 degrees warm. He’s telling me there is not enough “teeth” to properly grab the headliner at the bows, but they are all there. We compared them to the parts car. Nothing rotted or bent. Also he states we are missing “something” between side teeth plates (over the doors) and windshield teeth. Visor is used to tighten but the top of the A pillar is missing teeth. Neither car (parts car has factory headliner installed. We tore open to check) has anything there but a small tab of glue like substance.

Am I missing something or is this guy just bitching because it’s not as easy as a Chevrolet. What holds down the A-Pillar area? My car was not a one of a kind. I’m not the only one to replace the headliner.
I’ll post pictures when back at shop.

Hey Joe here are some pictures of my 66 when the headliner guy installed mine, hope something in here will help you out. There was no bitching when it was done and he was here for about 3 1/2 hours from start to finish.

Excellent. Thank you.
I’m hoping this guy is just rusty. I offered to bring him my car to his shop but he recommended it be at my shop. He’s at about 3-1/2 mark and still a tad wrinkle ly. He said about 1 or 1-1/2 hour more if heat is a applied. So not off base I guess. He is very talented and he’s done work for me and my company before. I am not sure if temperature is actual case or he’s just getting older and this is tougher than he remembers on the body. Thank you! Joe

Cloth doesn't stretch like vinyl in most cases and can be more difficult to work with . Heat on cloth is not as helpful as heat on vinyl but still necessary . I've been in the business for over 40 years and I don't get em done as fast I used to , its hard on the joints climbing in and out of cars after many years . He'll get it .

Thank you for your in sight.

I tore into the parts car with a factory headliner and found the spikes also were not punched outwards to hold the headliner on the C pillars. The factory headliner was glued there and at the top of the APillars from the factory. Spoke to him on the phone today... he bailed but is returning on Friday after hours to finish up. Something about an aunt needing help returning home from a hospital visit. It’s okay- I understand.
