1965 Barracuda - 4 yrs in the works

We (HS shop class) started with a 1965 Barracuda that was parked dead in a driveway for more than 20 yrs. Original 273 seized. The car was taken down to nothing, and is being rebuilt leaving the 'outside' 1965 finish. I've posted before about this car.

Build: fixed floors, tied frame rails, rebuilt dash, ........hell.....everything was redone.
Mechanicals; early 80s rebuilt 318 (summit 6901, HV pump, tensioner on timing set, etc), non lock 904, standard U-joint driveshaft, 8.75 SG with 3.91 gear, 235/60-15 rear tires, 205/70-15 fronts, mopar disk brakes, drum rear.
rewelded K frame, Schumacher mounts,..........and probably a ton of other crap. Vgate shifter,

did some fender patches and replaced the hit RR qtr. tried to duplicate the patina....will post a finished "back end" pict later.

To do: exhaust, re-install interior, install front/back glass.

Wow great save of a car that most likely would of been crushed and hopefully a pile of learning went into this project.

Well done!
 
First start AFTER camshaft break in I hope. lol Sounds good. I bet it'll scat.
 
Thanks. Are you going to install a rear bar also? I’m building mine as a driver, so I want it to handle well. 273 4 barrel with an A998 or 999 lockup automatic.
 
Cam run was done. We were able to get 15+ min at 2K to 3K - gradual throttle changes (yeah...should be 20, I know) Tough to get through with no exhaust and a lawn mower tank for fuel!. Had to fill it three times in the run! lol

Just drained the first oil. Lubriplate Super GPO with ZDDP additive. Filled the engine with fresh GPO and ZDDP. Only putting the hood on., that will end the work for this year.
Rear sway bar? probably not.

Here is where the exhaust is going to go. Need to get it to a shop. Prob. 2"

Do you have a ground on the fuel tank sending unit?
 
Glad someone is teaching them about Mopar's. Maybe you can change some kids before they go down the wrong road and ruin their lives. LOL it looks great, thanks for saving the fish.
 
when I get back, that's the first thing to check. tank is isolated.....so its probably the ground as you say.......

I couldn't find the proper ground strap once upon a time, so I used a piece of stranded copper wire and 2 small hose clamps to bridge the rubber hose between the sending unit and fuel line. If you used new fuel line up the body to the front, make sure it is grounded to the body somewhere along the way. I used the clamps with the rubber grommets in them once, and it took me a while to figure out that I'd isolated the fuel line! :BangHead:
 
Why the big round grommets in the cowl? Did you drill holes to get in there and fix rust?

Also, what parts are you missing? I have lots of stuff, I'd like to donate something to your project. Like maybe you need some trim? Or a taillight? Or headlight rings? Or missing some small piece that's hard to find?
