Got pre-approval today to build a new 26' x 36' garage and looking for interior ideas and figured I would ask for suggestions and photos of what you have done. Its a frame construction with vinyl exterior, concrete floor with a 6/12 pitch roof. Have to work out some items with the builder such as door sizes, location of a man door and such.

I would definitely do something with the floor as soon as possible. There are lots of epoxy coatings available with clear coat, anti skid grit and the sparkle color flakes. Or you could go with something like Race Deck.

However many electrical outlets you think you want, double it (and put 220 at both ends)
Think about putting light switches by every door.
I wish I'd put some sort of a socket/receiver in the floor (or 2 or 3) where I could insert a post for mounting tools (vise, ring roller, bender, etc.) - I've seen a couple on garage journal where someone did that
I also wish I'd gotten the expansion joints filled with epoxy - it's a pain getting floor jacks / cherry pickers/ wheel dollies over the cracks
Also, 10' bigger than I went... ;-)
I had them put HVAC in...that was great (and it's better insulated than the house is, so not that expensive to run)
One side is also tall enough for a lift
And there's a deep sink - it's nice to be able to wash up before going in the house (but, if you don't use it for a while, remember to run some water - if you leave it long enough for the water in the P-trap to evaporate, you'll walk in one day wondering why the garage smells like a sewer ;-)

if you coat it, let it dry all summer first

pay extra for 9 or 10 foot wide doors.

carrying anything through the door and past a car will be MUCH easier
it also helps greatly with any turning near the doors

I have a 26 deep by 30 wide

all of my cars and trucks are 17 feet long

there is enough room to get cars in and close the garage doors while still having room for a tool box and work bench in front of them, but an extra foot of walking room between the car and bench and car and door would go a long way.

at 30 wide there is enough room for 2 cars with one car door each completely open, and the other still useable. Again, another foot on each side would allow both doors on both cars to be open and allow shelving or cabinets on each side.

32 deep in my shop, with a hoist
I have to pay attention when lifting cars with the overhead door open.or opening door with car on hoist.

Plan on a hoist even if you aren't putting on in right away. The concrete under the towers needs to be thicker and more reinforced.

Spray insulate the building, at least the roof.
You can not believe the difference it makes in your effort to heat/cool $ the building.
It also adds sound proofing and adds value to your investment.
If you plan on doing a car lift consider a coffer ceiling.
I have 10 foot walls in my shop and I have a 4 post lift that I can park may Tundra under while my Barracuda is on top. Coffer ceiling made the clearance height just over 13 feet.
I can provide pic's if interested
Good luck

My only advice is, you're gonna wish it was bigger.

Metal restaurant sink with a drain board and a sprayer. Had one in my old house, not cheap but I used it every other day. Next to my workbench, same height so I just slid stuff over into sink. Spray off parts, soak parts in degreaser, Sprayed mud off little kids and small dog. Clean greasy hands, Cleans off easy, doesn’t stain so it still looks good. I’m getting another when I build this summer

Totally agree on the sink. I have a bathroom in my garage. Best thing ever.

Sink, bathroom, many outlets w/220/240 @ each corner, sheeeeot, throw in a mini kitchen with coffee and a back door to a covered patio and fire pit and I’m home Jack!

I’ll put a hammock in there somewhere and call it good!
LMAO, just kidding on the hammock, there will be a bed in the loft.

Dont forget the 60 inch big screen and a least 2 reliners, mini bar is optional.

Lots of lights. I had a friend once who installed flush mount fluorescent fixtures in the walls. It was great. Today's LED fixtures would make it easy.

I put in heavy duty racks over the non-lift area to store stuff I don't need for a while. Getting all that stuff up and off the floor where I'm working has been worth its weight in gold

Size was changed to 30' x 36'.
Excellent! Never to big. Mount all your 110 at least 4 ft off the floor, then they are handy for being accessible even with a bench in the way. Include a " clean " room. A place to do motor work, reload ammunition or anything else you don't want metal dust on. And totally agree with all the rack/two post suggestions, even if you don't do it now have a provision for it. And I special ordered my trusses creating a bunch of space down middle. I then put 3/4 plywood down center and created gobs of storage space. The trusses were not that much more in cost but essentially all but eliminated storage issues for big clunky space eating parts fenders etc. it has mentioned over and over on here so I will repeat. Put 220 on both ends! Hah! LED lights and don't spare the insulation!

Have fun and make it how YOU want it. I know some guys who would love a building like that but can’t afford it. Think hard about what you are gonna do in there and build it right the first time. Good luck
