Lately I have seen more muscle cars pop up for sale that have been lost to rot from lack of proper storage, lack of money...or even lack of interest in restoring the car...yet they hang on to them and turn down offers...saying how they're gonna restore it.
Some of these people even think someday some city slicker or tv car show guy will show up and A. Restore it for them ... or B. Hand out some stupid high cash offer for it.
Then there are the sensless emotionally broken traumatized .... "it was my sons, hes dead... so it'll rot in the yard till its dust".... Wtf... fix it... in honor/remembrance of him...he'd probably want that instead of it as a rusted weed covered pile of forgotten crap in the yard.

It's really hard 'for me at least ' to not wanna tear into and berate these people who post sale ads of rotted 340 cars for letting them rot to crap.. and for asking too high a price that it will most certaily end up a parts car or recycled.By the time they finally let it go... its fricking junk with 65%-80% nothing but rust holes...

[FOR SALE] - 1969 Swinger "340" and parts car

At least he acknowledges what he did.... He says he let go too long before he relized he couldn't finish it... But seeing the car in such neglected shape still makes me sick.
Store it properly or sell it to someone who can!! You cant take it with you, and you arent gonna get a dime for it if its junk.

This is for all the guys who would love to have/buy and or have been looking for a decent numbers project and goes out to all the backwoods autowreckers ,people in general who let cars sit in marsh and overgrowth, and the weirdo or emotional damaged family's who just let everything go to **** 'including their mental health and emotion well being' in the side yard/past and still expect top dollar when/if they do sell.
If you arent one of those people who let's them rot...then this is not aimed at you. Its beyond a hobby at a certain point... its historical preservation of our American heritage.

Well said......Can't stand to see it but its way to common. That and also the people who have beautiful cars under covers in garages and they sit there and never ever get used. Guy in my neighborhood has a triple black 1966 Chevelle SS 396 4 speed that since I have been living there has never ever seen the light of day......I was walking one day and he was out so I asked about the car. He was all happy about telling me he bought it from the original owner and has all the paperwork. I said its to nice to be hidden in your garage for at least the 13 years I've know of the car......I actually called it a crime to have it and not ever enjoy it.....

That is tough to look at. And even tougher believing it's a $5k car. When in fact it's a $500 car. There are a small group of restoration folks that prides themselves on $500 projects. Which takes more guts than I have to under go that sort of effort.

When I sell a car, I basically want it to go to a good home that will take care of it, respect it, maybe even love it a little. NO I won't give it away to achieve such, just want fair price.

It is very sad, There is an older couple not far from me that have their sons 70' Sublime Hemi SuperBee along side of the garage, He died in Vietnam and the car has been sitting ever since, not much left, and the fella a little farther away that has a Triple Black 440 six pack 70' Charger, I've heard it is a Mr. Norms car but I didn't see a sticker saying so. Both of these cars were ordered while the men were over seas, neither one actually got to drive their brand new Muscle Cars. I have talked to these people and it was heart breaking to say the least. As much as us car guys and gals hate to see this, sometimes we just have to understand, sometimes there is a good reason. I wish I could have taken photos but they did not want that, they were constantly being bombarded by people wanting to buy them and did not want to make it worse, I gave the SuperBee owners a car cover that I didn't need any more and it helped, whats worse is they all told me stories about "Car Guys" that were very rude to them, now thats just not right. Now the Morons that have one that is rotted beyond repair because they were going to restore them someday but didn't and now they want Barrett Jackson money for them, well thats a different story.

I agree somewhat with your post.
However, there are a lot of angles you haven't looked at.
How about if you have a rare 340 car (rolling shell) for sale that is rough, but fixable?
And you try to sell it to someone who will restore it or at least get it on the road?
Then nobody is interested because it's ''too rough'' or ''too far away'' even if the price is say 4 to 500 bucks?
Or you get the clowns who want you to sell them the numbers off of it.
So you try for 3 years to sell it with no luck?
You back it up to the fence and forget about it, that's what you do.
So, i guess i'm one of the guys you hate..........

May be a shocker to you...but I agree with you, to an extent, Jeff.
A lot of car guys are total assholes, arrogant and it's a shame. Most on here arent... but many are taken as such by the keyboard losing translation and then the reply is perceived wrong...then there are the clicks, even worse... because those guys cloud truth with loyaty or preference and screw over up and coming guys and progress and sharing in the hobby. Those guys are only helping themselves.

That said.
Those guys are never coming back and keeping the car riding on the side of the house is not going to bring them back either and only continues the trauma as a daily reminder of loss... moving on would be getting rid of the car, giving it new life.

Everybody with their head screwed on straight knows that grieving for a lifetime is more harmful to your health than eating poorly or not wearing a seat belt.
Sell it, they never drove it anyways... it has no connection other than intention!!!

Damn might be a shocker to you to, but I totally agree, I could not have that reminder either, I even asked them about it and they told me, the car reminded them of the good times. So what are ya gonna do! People have their ways of reasoning things out for them selfs and if that works for them so be it.

Sorry, not climbing on board with this rant. It's my car, I bought it. I paid the taxes on it. I'll do exactly with it what I like. Most of the time people want you to damn near give it to them. I understand that some think they are holding gold, more like pyrite. But it belongs to them. I suppose your one of those eminent domain kind of guys also. You know, the ones that say your not using your land efficiently so I'm taking it for the good of.... and wont pay what its worth. Cuz that's what your talking about here "Eminent Domain". People don't like something, so they think they should be able to take it. They pass laws just like this. That's not the America I defend/ed. As the saying goes. Everything has a price. You want it that bad. Keep offering until the deal is made.

Be kind, strike up a conversation, listen, make an offer, leave a card with a number, and walk away respectfully.

Oh, and never pay full price for late pizza.

Awesome post.
I agree with you 100%.

Still waiting on word about a car.
A good donor for parts for my car and maybe help out a few others in need of parts.
Owner passed and his brother ran it past me. He suggested a price and i went a little higher in hope the wife would sell.
Its rotting away in son’s back yard,he would like to see it go to good use,but waiting for a family discussion.
For an 800 dollar parts car that hasnt turned a wheel in over 20 years...

Then there is the young fellow grabbing up every a body that he can find and strips them to the shell for parts and offers them up for a ridiculous amount. Crushes the shells for scrap.

I have a '77 Volare wagon project for sale on FB marketplace. It has sat since '92, 99% rust free Tx car, stright, not running ( as of today) 318, the paint is original and pretty much survivor paint. $1000. The ad comes out and a guy wants it "maybe, " to fix up for is fishing car. He has NO interest in it except for a fishing ride.
I told him I wanted to sell it to someone that will appreciate it for the condition and what it is. And not be bad with the work and $ that will go into it.
I said, you just need a running driving old pickup!

Saw a guy driving a 71 camaro last weekend. Looked solid but beat up. Top down and cruising it. Think the guy uses it more like a truck than anything else.
Gas cans and tools in the trunk.

I have a collection of cars and I get people stopping by all the time to ask if anything is for sale.

They are nice, gentle and smiles when they first show up but turn total asshole when you say you are not interested in their low ball offer, or just simply not interested in selling. It's almost harassment.

I dont sell because I am 32 and healthy, I do have the ability to fix some cars. I am just a little short on time now because I have this thing I have to do... called an office job.

It gets easy to turn into a ***** with strangers showing up because they assume I won't fix then because I am a girl. They ask who the owner is when I say I am like they don't believe me. They tell me the car needs a lot of work as if I don't already know. They tell me they "would be doing me a favor by taking it off my hands" ...... usually for low ball offers.

What really pisses me off are the ones who take liberties to go into the yard and open hoods and start looking without permission.

After all that it gets easier to turn mean and just say "get off my property or cops will be called"

Good thing most of my cars aren’t rare... I keep them all in the back away from the view of most people driving by. I’ll probably never get to finish them all but will end up passing them along to the kids, or possibly sell a few off.

Boo hoo hooo....look a littler harder for the right car. Did you know that most of the muscle cars ever built still haven’t surfaced? Cars, collection, barn finds and hoards are being discovered everyday single day! Some cars are rotting because many don’t even know they are there. And if someone doesn’t want to sell because of a death....we’ll thats their business. Then there are the huge car auctions held because of a death or people who just realize they will never get them done...in the Midwest there are always huge auctions!

People who own them....guess what...they can do what they want....even if that means letting them sit and rot back into the earth. Do I agree with this? Not always cause I’d love to find some of these cars, but people just need to dig deeper. There are thousands and thousands of MoPars waiting to be discovered!!!!

And please refrain from using the “F bomb” might want to delete or edit it because a moderator will find you since it’s not allowed on this site in the “general discussion forum”

I mean its his car he can do what he wants, I think whats more terrible is restoring a car and driving it once a year, then wondering why it runs like **** on bad gas.

Lots of people that buy those rotting cars, drag them home to another location, then they just rot away at the new location.

When people choose to let these old cars rot, it is fine with me. It just makes the ones that have been saved all the more valuable.

Hundred of thousands of the old cars were driven into the ground and crushed for scrap decades ago and I don’t cry over the loss of them either. It’s part of the reason why the ones that have been saved are now “rare”.

I pretty much agree. And no way that car is ever gonna bring 5500 even with the so called "parts car". They are both two big piles of rust. What a shame.

Quite a sour reply mr.self righteous.
Thanks for the heads up on how you're a pretty intolerant whiny guy with poor comprehension skills.*I never said I wanted that car and I never posted a link to any sale thread that I said was interested in either.*
If you're not one of those people who has cars rotting away in a field, wooded area, callpased building for 20+ years... then don't come at me like a chump. And that dont mean you're a jerk for having some... not all will take on that kinda project.....its not about you. The link was an example , not attack, and I gave the guy credit because he was honest and felt bad he couldn't finish it. Others... just put a high price on a car that looks like swiss cheese. I think while my post rides the line in some wording... its accurate. Some might interpret this way differently as well...and I cant help that from happening, you gotta think objectively and NOT figure in some bullcrapola about not getting a car at a price I wanted... cause thats soooooo far from what inspired this post....

SAVE THESE MOPARS BEFORE THEY'RE RUSTED JUNK IS THE POINT.

You're either not trying very hard or marketing it in the wrong area... Or the car is already Swiss cheese and not worth $25 in scrap because every panel has holes in it.
There is more to that story... and there are more variables that I couldn't possibly cover in the first place which is why I tried to put a disclaimer as whoever reads this don't automatically think it's about you just because it doesn't cover your special circumstance. Everyone who knows and who woke on the right side of the bed knows exactly what I'm talking about ....oh, and for all you know this thread may sell that car for you.

The guy I got my Duster from is the guy to hate. one of those "i'll fix it some day, but until then it's going to sit out in the weather and the property cats can have all their kittens on the front seat". Every time I get the chance, I rescue something from him. So far I've rescued a '69 Rambler 2 door sedan, '74 Porsche 914, '80 Datsun 280ZX, '80 Mercedes 450SL and a couple of package deals that included a BMW 735 and an El Camino. This is all over the course of the past 10 years. The Duster was there for 8 years and I remember when he got it. Must have decided he didn't want to mess with it anymore and parked it back in the forest. 8 years later, he goes into forced retirement and now cant afford insurance so all these old cars are for sale.. now most of them aren't even worth their weight in rusty steel... but to him, they are still worth at least what HE paid. It's difficult to explain his logic TO HIM. and even better, he never signed any of the titles into his name!!!
