Who has used a QA1 on their Gen III swap in an A Body? Any shortcoming's, special concerns or gotchas one should be worried about? I plan on using the TTI mounts and factory biscuits. Also, will I have to do a remote filter, stock location or will a 45 degree work? or am I Will Robinson on this adventure.

There is a lot of info out there on these swaps, getting better every day. I do not have the QA1 front suspension so I used my factory stock stuff and used the Bouchillon mounts tti headers(should have used factory 2010/2011 srt jeep headers)
what car is this going into for starters. Moparts has some good reading as well. so far this thread on a bodies is much more populated

Thanks Kiddart1 - It is going into a 71 Demon. I will look over in Moparts. I have the TTI's already and hear you on the Jeep headers, the information was a little sketchy in that area, so I went with a solid known with TTI's.

Note - I have done a 5.7 swap in an E-body, so there is familiarity here, but used a factory K for that swap. I posted that on ForEBodies (1970 Cuda - New Go Mango). A bodies start losing room, so trying to pick people brains before I jump into the deep end.

I will post this build once I gain traction -

Can,
I am in middle of stuffing 6.1 in a 72 Demon. I have QA1 in my Cuda but once I found HDK I never looked back. For the Demon I went with HDK it was super well built and no drama at all using TTI headers. I would give them a call. He is on this Forum as well as Hemi Denny. If you need any more info feel free to PM me and I will tell you anything I know or have learned. I have a build thread on here in the new Hemi swap section. Lots of pix and explanations there. Many guys on here have already done this and are true pros. I am just a hacker doing it as I can. Some of these guys are true artists. I look at their builds and just slobber with envy.

Subime - Thank you, I have read your post, you do nice work, but I agree, there are builders on this page who do phenomenal work.

And I agree on HDK set up, but I would need to save more aluminum cans if I go that route.

DANGER!!! Will Robinson.
Just kidding. I used the the QA1 crossmember before CAP Auto sold the design to them. I had issues with the motor motor mounts and the steering box mounting. This was before they took over the product about 13 years ago. Some things may have change since then. I ditched it and collected more aluminum cans and got an Alterkation. Do some good research, some one with good results will chime in. DONT GET LOST IN SPACE as I did.

I'm curious about the QA1 also, I'd really like to keep my torsion bars for my G3 swap.

So these factory headers will fit a
Abody with a Qa1 k member
The driver’s side looked really tight with the
Manual gearbox
Anyone know

Made a little progress on discovery with the QA1 with TTI mounts, TTI headers, manual box, factory cooler lines, 727, and remote filter. Biggest issues and not all are related to the QA1 K are:

Manual box is very close, paper thin space between TTI's and box.

Remote oil set up - could not use AN-10 and braided lines, had to go with AN-8 and softer rubber with press lock - had to get a little creative with this. Note - using a car front cover assembly with alternator in lower left. I did message frame a bit for clearance Clarence.

727 with adapter plate where not a perfect match - holes on plate needed minor messaging. I bought/used a Boss Hogg convertor, they used the larger bolts. Bolts where a little to close to block so messaged them a little as well

Cooler lines fit really nice, just needed minor messaging

Did put a Champion CC375B with shrouds and fans - am/was/are a little concerned on the space between front of the engine and fans - but brother swears there is 4 to 5 inches of space. I will advise when putting in car.

and finally steering side. I thought I was going to use the factor power column shift with a Firm Feel adapter - Hell no that will not work, so using a D bar welded to column and Summit 36 spline adapter. Will advise more on this.

Very nice, would you mind posting pics of the issues you described like the steering box clearance, remote oil filter setup and steering column mods? Your build is almost exactly the same as I want to do for my future G3 swap except I hope to have a T-56 already in the car behind my current 5.9 Mag to use behind the Hemi.

FYI. If anyone gets QA1 k member and uses TTI header and then switches to an Alterkation, you will have to get 6.1 headers for your 5.7. The 5.7 headers will not work. I know because I was there. Luckily for a memeber here, they got a hell of deal on gently used headers. I can not stress enough about doing all the research you can before you spend money. You may be throwing it away like I did.

Just curious, why an adapter plate? Small block 727 or 904 bolts directly to block on new hemi. ATI makes a faceplate with correct offset.

R&D - Yes, I will get a couple of pictures for you - absolutely, it will take a day or two.

408 - That is the plate I used, two things I believe contributes to it - one, the holes where not spot on and second the Boss Hog convertor used the larger bolts, so needed a little adjustments. Also, the Boss Hog had course thread #8's, so the bolts are bigger (not flat like normal convertor bolts).

- also used the ATI locking dipstick. It too needed a little persuading but should work out well - nice and tight to the motor and transmission.

And Logan - totally agree, why I was asking questions up front

Oooh, that's what you meant by "adapter plate". Forgive me, I'm a little slow!

R&D Here are a couple of pictures - no pointing and laughing

There is very thin gap here - like "I'm not touching you, I'm not touching you, I'm not touching you"

Again TTI mounts, factory biscuits, and QA1

You will have to trim the outer tube of the steering column.

Thank you - understand and see that now in the pictures. Question, did you use the factor shift column shift linkage? I believe the lower z type-bar should clear the the headers (I think - will need to verify) and what oil gauge did you use? I just bought a speed hut, I think I am going to use GPS speedometer and the Autometer gauge cluster?
