71 360 Demon New Personal Best

Well...2 yrs ago went i put the Dana 60 in the Demon i did not do a good job of getting the ladder bars parallel.....the car does go straight...and running consisted with consist 60 ft times.
I put the car up on the lift today to change oil...and walking under the car looking at stuff.....man...my rear end is all out of shape....I could not believe how bad it is....the rear coil over shocks look like the leaning tower of Pisa...

I was going to go to Top Gun Raceway next weekend and race ....but not in this car....

Going to have to remove rear ....cut brackets off....and redo it all again....
aww damn, would be cool to meet you in person at top gun.. I was going to go whether I got the engine back together or not.

I will be there....lol.....either in a 71 Duster or a 75 Duster...lol

the fastest one or the slowest one...lol

Moving on to fix the Demon next weekend...Dart and Duster done ....gotta repair a 2007 Caliber that my youngest owns...dam lower control arm bushing are shot....but you can replace the whole dam thing....easy bolt on..

ok...dropped the Dana 60 out of the car this morning....

then had to change oil in a friends VW cc....good god....someone cranked the oil bolt down....lol

Anyway will get to cutting off old brackets tomorrow morning...suppose to be a hot one this weekend....

Been working on that Dana 60....yesterday got the brackets cut off.....bought a plasma cutter several years ago....used once....got it out after making little progress with cutting wheel...once I got the hang of it again...bingo.....

spend a hour or so of grinding off the crap left over.

one photo show how simple it was to cut off the bracket once i got the hang of it......other shows after the grinding and 4 cans of brake cleaner to clean it...

Was going to weld it in tomorrow...but i gotta baby sit some grandkids....

No baby sitting .....got it centered under the car...measured ten times........got the measurements from the ladder bars from old 8 3/4,,,,set them on Dana 60...bingo we have a winner...

tack welded brackets.....then welded on brackets but not completely done.....going to get car up in air to finish welding....

need to get lower shock mounts welded on ...but those will be a piece of cake.....should be ready to rock and roll next weekend....

was 111 degrees out in the garage.....dry heat they say....lol

need to drag link cut and rethreated to fit

I truly admire how much stuff you get done!!

Not even taking into account the heat.

111 !!!!!
Whew!!!

It’s been humid in these parts.... were suffering! Keep in mind we’re used to like 4-6%!

I’ll take some of the 4-6% humidity, 97* with 95% here in Va. sweat rolling off like you have a garden hose squirtn at ya.

well..its only 108 today....had to put on a sweater...

Got the lower shock mounts welded on....I made it harder then it should have been...but done.....
shocks slipped right on......

last thing.....drag link to hold the rear in place....looks like i need to cut about an inch off and rethread it.......tomorrow maybe...

had a real lousy week........but life goes on....

..EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM PDT MONDAY

MONDAY
Sunny. Highs around 110 on the west side of the
valley
110 to 113 on the east side. South winds up to 10 mph.

Leaving Vegas monday morning heading to Sacramento for a funeral....at least it is cooler

Wipe those areas down with alcohol before welding off that brake clean stuff residue. That residue and off gas can be bad news when the welder is on.

Back to work on the demon after a couple weeks ....got the diagonal link cut and retreaded on rear end. Got the brake lines back on the rear and connected to brake calipers. Was going to bleed the rear brakes but friends showed up and wanted to go to lunch.

my neighbor stock eliminator friend plus the guy (another stock guy)
who painted the AAR plus their engine builder from Michigan showed up....went to eat at the near by mexican restaurant....we all order one enchilada and she brought 3 each...lol......after lunch a nap was necessary and I am not making it back to the garage this afternoon...at 106 degrees out.

tomorrow morning I need to bleed brakes put the rear tires on .....get car up on lift and do a little welding to finish it off....

Well...i am going to rant on my own thread.....Ethanol...LOL...I read over and over about ethanol blended gas going bad in a few week or a month in the gas tank....This Demon has not raced since the last week of April...it is now the middle of August..it has had the same e85 in it since then and the fuel is probably older ....our e85 comes by rail car....probably sit out at the rail station for months...

I do run the carb dry....so I hit the fuel pump switch....it pumps ethanol into carb...i pump it a couple of times...the engine fires right up with ethanol that is probably 6 month old if not older....I know i got a few 5 gallon cans still full from april.....with be in race car a few weeks from now...ok ...done....time to go to bed 5am comes at 5 am...lol

The car is basically done....I backed it out of the one bay and put in the next bay with the 4 post lift and it is up in the air for storage for now.

working on the 75 Duster now....or this weekend....

Well..it is now January 18, 2020.....car has been up in storage on the 4 post lift.....lowered it today...covered with a lot of dust...We got the hood and air cleaner off....was worried that the batteries would be dead since it has not moved since Aug....

I primed the car with plain old gas....the e85 has been in their since who knows went....fires right up....adjust idle up a few hundred rpm to get some heat in it....tires need air...and out she comes from the garage....gets a nice bath....

load it in morning onto open trailer as all the enclosed trailers are being used...lol....
as usual the driver will need to be retrained.....that is why they call them Test n Tune....

Had to find this thread on page 10...wow.
