socket size for a small block mopar crank shaft bolt?

-
ARP 12 point is 1 1/16
just in case someone pulls this up in the future looking for this one.

Depends on what brand tools you have hahaha ;-) let's just say the one that fits a standard Factory crank bolt, fits it loose for some.

1-1/4" and 1-1/8" are the most common.

Like most things about these cars it depends on the year of manufacture, and of course whether or not it's been changed at some point in the last ~50 years.

I had to revise a bolt head last week when a SBC intake bolt was rusted between a 9/16 and 1/2". Some input from my heat wrench made it a 14mm and I pounded on the correct socket!

At least you did not have a round head bolt on a 318 LA, it was not machined for the hex.

It was torqued on how?
I dont know, but the sob was tight, an air chiesel would not spin it out, I cut it off with a cut-off wheel, sacrificed the head.
It was tight, let the machine shop deal with the remains.
It still had the factory shim gaskets on the heads and intake, so most likely somebody had a bad day on the assembly line, he/she put it in the back farthest bolt on the passenger side, so it would be impossible to remove.
It still has the hardens hashes on it.
Fun, Fun

Dam, I have never seen that b4. Kim
Neither have I, and I have been fooling with small block mopars for over 35 years.
The engine came out of a 73 Charger, the guy said it ran and the trans would still pull the car around, but rust had gotten to the charger, he still had the car, in my opinion it was fixable he just parted it out, because he had several nice of the same era Chargers.
The engine, did end up being a nice builder, just needed cylinders honed.

That’s sweet. Kim
Thanks, its going in a old cuda drag car I have, back 1/2 dana 60 with a cage, just need to get the car together, most likley this winter, the back 1/2 and cage are done, just need to hang the sheet metal.

If some one doesn't want you to take it apart, maybe will void the warranty ? Or they don't want you to know whats inside.

Maybe a cutoff wheel making a slot and then a hammer and impact driver 'might have got it out. Another way might have been to punch and drill the top off in increments.

I bet it looked like a standard hex head bolt, but it was somehow not correctly machined. The hex part spun off when a certain torque was reached. Much like those "Tork Bolts", but unintentional.
