New A body owner

-
Well, I got home from work an hour early today and the wife agreed to go with me so I could pick up the Dart. Completed the transaction with the owner and we were on our way back home shortly thereafter. 35 miles later, through wide open freeway and bumber-to-bumper traffic, we made it home. It was starting to get dark so I didn't get the greatest pictures, but here's a few more of some interesting spots that need attention.

There she is parked next to my daily. The GT is pretty dirty and has some old growth that needs to be washed off.

The owner says the engine was swapped with a 225 from a 78 truck. The trunk was loaded up with speakers and oversized battery cables/windshield decals lead you to believe he was a stereo enthusiast.

She's tough to start cold. The thermostatic choke is disconnected and a manual choke is routed through the firewall.

The picture doesn't show it well, but there's a decent valve cover leak on the passenger side.

Passenger rear window regulator issues!

Pleasant surprise, there's a whole car in the trunk!! I haven't dug through it yet, but I another grill, headlight bezels, tail lights, a lot of interior, a center console of some sort, among other things. I'll sort through it this weekend.

She's a little squirrely at highway speeds, but the PO has receipts for a lot of recent suspension work as well as new tires. Might need an alignment. Brake lights don't work and are wired up to a switch. There's sheet metal screwed down in the front floor pans, so what's under there can't be good. The headlight switch is dangling from the dash and has some wires spliced in.

I've got some work cut out for me, but I'm looking forward to getting the car back together and trying to maintain driver status as much as possible during the project.

Holy cow, you have 7-$800worth of parts in the trunk! LOL

Am I reading this correctly? Originally a 170 car, white interior, mauve/black exterior?

225/ automatic, bucket seats, left outside remote nmirror, 2 watt am radio, White and black bucket seats? Mauve body black upper door color. I decoded not knowing whether Canadian built cars would be different. Darts were usually built in Hamtramck Michigan. Let me look at it vin and I will confirm some of this information.

Yep LP23B69
L=Dart
P=Premium level (GT)
23= 2 door hardtop
B=225-6 cyl
6=1966
9=Built in Windsor Ontario Canada

Thank you for posting that information. I misread a website deciphering the engine code apparently!

I laid out a lot of what was in the trunk, and there are quite a few duplicate parts in there. A set of tail lights, a pair of metal seat backs, a bunch of green interior pieces taped together and labeled "Valiant", a center console with a heavy chrome lid that I haven't identified, and many others.

There's a pretty big exhaust leak and upon closer inspection I found a few broken manifold studs which I'll hopefully tackle this weekend.

I found a Holley 1920 carburetor in the trunk. The car has a re-manufactured Carter on it now.

Hello, I'm picking up my first A body this Saturday and I'm pretty excited. I've owned a few Dodge vehicles in the past (learned to drive in an 81 K car, bought a 2002 Dakota new, currently driving a 2013 Dart). I grew up in a Chevy household and branched out into Ponchos and Olds over the last 20 years, but have never had a Mopar project/fun car.

Needless to say I'm very happy with the condition of the car for its age, price and location and I'm looking forward to driving it home Saturday!

Its a 66 GT, 225 slant with column shift.

Hello, I am on the hunt for a pump drive spring for a Holley 1920. Do you have any plans for the 1920 from the trunk? It is for my 65 Valiant. I will be out of town for 3 or 4 days so my reply will be delayed.
