Looking for another set of eyes to look at my pictures. 72 Demon with 60 over 440, 4 speed A-833, centerforce clutch, custom drive shaft, 489 8 3/4 355 gear. Need help seeing what i have wrong here. The cut out in the oil pan is not located correctly. The motor mounts were in the car when i bought it in 2005. Appear to be correct offset (schumacher??). K member has been cut out for oil pump approx 1 inch long. I bought a pan from mancini. Still have the typical steering issue hitting the pan. Not sure what I am missing. Not sure how much the engine can go up also?I know this conversion is a pretty standard thing. It will be getting TTI's next. Any help you can give me would be helpful. Thanks in advance, Jared

I may have missed it, but what oil pan are you using? Some fit better than others. Though it looks like its hitting on the pan rail area to me, cant tell very well on my phone. May have to shim the engine up a bit? Another option might be to crank up the torsion bar adjusters but I don't know if that'd help there.

I bought a new mancini repop pan. I used to have a 187 pan and had the same issue. It is about an 1.5" from the cut out in the pan. The 187 pan was almost worn through. Not sure how much i can shim the engine up?

Do you have the v8 pitman arm

You can use TTI's. Headers suck for big blocks in a body's but it can be worked out lol...

Ya, that is the route i was going to go with the exhaust Just need to figure out this steering issue first!

These cars vary. Mine is a wednesday, crabby patty, it's close enough tolerance car lol. I have modified my Kmember for lots of adjustment. There is no set rule to making it work other than line up the tranny crossmember. However, you have the Zbar to factor in also. Was the car manual transmission prior to the big block?

I am going hydraulic slave for clutch so that will not be an issue. It was a 318 auto from the factory. These cars are all different!

There is no magic answer, just lots of hard work. First place to start is to measure the location of the engine and make sure it is where TTi wants it. If the engine is in the correct location then you have a tolerance stack up problem. On my '72 I switched over to the '73 style steering linkage and that solved some problems for me. Sometimes you have swap parts, sometimes you have to massage stuff with a hammer, other times a torch, sometimes you have to custom fab parts. It is what it is.

I have been looking at pics of 72 A body steering parts to make sure mine were correct.

These are the pics I sent to Schumacher and he thought maybe my problem was a mount not formed right from him. Not sure but this is how the motor is sitting during mock up needed to move 1/8" to the back of the car.

As for the steering, that I do not know in relation to my mount situation but my car is an original H code and stock steering so I have made sure to allow for adjustments when it all comes together.

As for the headers, it is what it is. I bought my TTI's from the board and luckily (or unluckily) the representation of the condition (marks, scratches, etc.) were way worse than described in the ad so I am just making them fit as necessary....

Your placement looks pretty close to the same as what i have. Thanks for the pics.

It is hard to know until i get the headers i suppose

Andy made a good point to look up the TTI position for the motor. I saw a number recently but can't remember where. At the end of the day this is Hotrodding 101 and mileage will vary.

A quick back story is I did a bunch of Big block conversions of ford trucks from the 70's and they are a cake walk compared to a BB into an A body. Eye opening experience for sure lol....

It is a learning experience. Any time I can work on it is a good day

Enjoy the journey. FYI- I used a level across the valve covers and my crank was at 0 degress. If you need to shim to motor which may happen take fender washers and cut slots in them. It's way easier than raising and lowering out of the K member pads and once everything is locked down it's all there to stay....

That opens the flood gates for making the necessary adjustments hopefully. I looked back at your pics and saw the slave cylinder.

Nice car BTW- makes mine look like a pile lol...
