Do you sleep easy knowing your jack is made in China?

Mine is the same jack by pictures. It was purchased at a name brand store back when Larin was semi-name brand, right when the Chinese Invasion began. At the time, there were many American-made jacks that were similar, and I'd used many of them, but the metal was stronger, and I'm sure that there were other corners cut on this jack.

I don't care if it's from the same plant or not. I don't trust the Chinese stuff, never will. Maybe it comes from the same plant, just from the 'reject' pile. You never know and can't trust 'em.

Of the three items you list, none will physically crush a person through failure.

And I try to buy non-Chinese on that stuff as well.
I have a 2.5 ton HF jack that I purchased in 2009, nine years later still works fine.
I also have a light duty jack like the one being discussed, it is used to stabilize a differential, tranny or engine from the bottom, when doing installs.
Basically a third hand, I like the lightness of it for those tasks.
Bottom line is, jacks are like all other tools, there is a variety of strengths and weights available.
A portion of the skill in working on a vehicle is being able to select the correct tool for the job.

Ever notice that folks have preconceived concerns with the quality and durability of Chinese built hard parts like hydraulic jacks and hand tools, but have no quality concerns with the Chinese built cell phones, computers and flat screen tv’s that they use every day.

Last time I checked, my cell phone wont cause my car to fall and kill me. But yeah I complain about the cheap disposable electronics we have now. They are made with inferior components and dont last.

That's why my cell phone is in a water proof, shock resistant case.

$29 china freight cheap ****. Notice the stamped side frames and weak assed manufacturing. Not sure if this is what your using or not.

Last pic is the china freight Daytona 3 ton. $129. Apparently this jack was compared to a Snap On 3 ton jack. Now being I am a hobbyist I will go with the $129 over the prob $600 snap on jack.

I guess you get what you pay for.

A guy at my fire department uses that Daytona on his farm, we use it in our firehouse. I have a China made Napa jack and overkill jack stands ( 6 ton for the diesel and 2.5 ton for my Demon)

My new phone went into the case the day i bought it. 3 years later, second case but phone is like new. Both my kids have broken at least one of their phones in the first week they had them.

But I'm too cool for a phone case Dad. I like to keep it in my back pocket so I can snap the screen in half lol. Kids = brain damage

I like the way some ppl are saying they don’t trust the Chinese stuff, but can I ask how many have Chinese stuff in the homes and work places. What about in ur car and on ur car? Kim

Exactly, and knowing WHAT the intended usage of that tool is. A jack is just that. A jack. A lifting device. Not a holding or support device. I still have the first HF jack I bought the week the Macon store opened......."I guess" about 1995ish? It was red when I bought it. I've abused it all to hell and back. Left it outside, over taxed it, run it low on oil, you name it. In fact, it was left outside so long to the point that it's now pink. I just clean it up every now and then, lube the wheels, make sure it's full of oil and it just keeps right on going. I also have one of their aluminum light weight rapid pump jacks, too. Both work very well, although the pink jack has a higher lifting range. Any jack can fail, especially if you use it for a jack and a jack stand.......like a dumbass. There are some HF tools I like and some of the jacks they sell I do like.

I don't.

I've used this one maybe a half dozen times even though I bought it years ago. It's only been under my Neons, only on level cement. I might have used it on the wife's Caliber once to do a rear strut. I always use my jack stands, unless the jack folds before I can get a stand under it!

I had this one at about 3/4 lift, turned around to grab the stand and when I tried to slide it under, it wouldn't clear the car. WTH?

Looked at the jack and it was doing three-wheel-motion like Ice Cube.

Spend the coin if you can, and get an American-made jack. If I'd had my hand in between the hard spots, my hand would've become a soft spot. This is a Larin jack that lived in the trunk so I wouldn't have to use the factory jack, but looks the same as the pawn-store trash I see at lots of autoparts stores. I ended up using the factory jack with a ratchet for the time being.

A Larin? One of the biggest POS jacks on the planet. I don't feel safe using any jack. That's what jack stands are for. I will speak frankly to all of you. If you can't afford proper and safe tools and equipment, you have no business in the hobby.

Sooooo let's list some affordable alternatives for Jack's AND electronics....NORTH AMERICAN MADE if the Chinese ones are so horrible.

I used to demo my jacks by jacking up the front of my truck. 2 1/2 ton jack and my truck weighed 15,800#. And the MAC Tool jacks were made in China. I believe the Lincoln jacks are still made in the USA. Like the red ones Snap On sells.

RIGHT! As it should be. The minute you feel safe or comfortable using a jack is the minute something might happen. You always watch your *** when you're lifting 3000 plus pounds.

A little off topic, anybody ever use a jackall?
I think they are intended to kill people. Like natural selection...

I was under my car Sunday. It’s on 6 jack stands and cinder blocks under all tires.

When I change oil in the Calibers, they’re on Rhino Ramps plus jack stands. Wheels chocked.

My Pap had a car fall on him when he was young. Broke a few ribs but mostly scared the hell out of him that he almost suffocated under the car. My Grandmother somehow heard him gasping for breath and got the car lifted back up off him. My whole life growing up messing with cars he probably told the story hundreds of times. I learned from his "lesson" to ALWAYS take the extra time to make sure the car is PROPERLY on jack stands OR I won't crawl under the car. He passed a couple years ago but he's still in my ear when jacking up a car telling that story!!!

Wait a minute... Are we talking about this type of jack?

This is a toy... It should say Fischer-Price "My First Jack" on the box. It is obviously failure waiting to happen and you can't compare it to other real car jacks and I don't care where they are made.

That's why it was just a trunk jack, until it folded after minimal, appropriate usage! Regardless, it's literally only ever hoisted Neons, which is well within its ratings (almost typed 'abilities', and had to nix that). And the one job on the Caliber which, now that I think about it, it was just used to lift a control arm, I had my normal jack in its usual spot under the lift point in case it's needed in a hurry (With stands in place, obviously)

I was about to ***** about this but then I re-read it and realized you weren't using cinderblocks as your primary support.

Honestly, I go to great lengths to keep it all out of my life. No Chinese drywall, no Chinese pet food, No Chinese car parts (unless NO other options are available, and I still wouldn't run Chinese structural metal). All of the aforementioned products have been proven to be laced with toxic materials and/or inferior materials.

I don't even buy mandarin oranges any more, much to my chagrin. But I can't find them sourced anywhere but China.

I buy peel and eat oranges called cuties. Nice and sweet, easy to peel. I believe they come from florida.

no Chinese pet food .QUOTE]

I don't eat any pet food, but the point is, if you want to buy American because you want to support American Labor, or American Ideas, or the American Way of Life,
do so and I don't think that anyone would disagree with you. I know that I would not.
However if you think that America has a lock on being the best in manufacturing just because it is made in America, or products are defective just because they are made in China, you have seriously underestimated the competition.

Again, I applaud you for buying American, but have a valid reason for doing so.

Until 3 weeks ago I was using an LG cell phone from 2012.

It served me very well until some web sites I used (weather radar site, which are important to motorcyclists and classic car owners in FL) started coding in a java/flash version the phone os didn't support, and even after that I still used it for phone/text/camera.

3 weeks ago it went through the washer and the dryer.

It actually survived and I was able to dry it out and get it booted up and saw I had messages, however the touch screen didn't work. I actually had another identical phone, and swapped the screen over, but it must have been the MLB because the touch still didn't work. I was not able to swap the account because the carrier no longer had a provision for that phone (even though it still worked on their service) My new phone is 4G, so I couldn't port my 3G plan over and my bill went for $25 to $34 a month.

...but my weather radar sites work again!
