H-Beam Rods

I have come across an old set of H-beam connecting rods, would like to know who the mfgr. might be. Etched number on the rod is 6123 CR. Plan to put them in my 340 build.

Could be a bunch of different brands. There are two, maybe three companies that make that Rod in China. They just end up in boxes with different names on them.

Verify the bolts are quality ARP bolts and not faked chinese copies, verify both ends for size and geometry and run them.
 
How old is "old"? Like YR stated make sure bolts are good, big and small ends sized correctly, have them maged. If all is good, run them.

Do not know how old. They do have ARP 7/16 12 point bolts. 6123 length, big end of the rod is .925. They look like they are new except for very mild surface rust. They were in an engine at least once, they had pistons attached. I planned on glass beading them for clean up. I will go back to where I found them and see if I can get more info.

I had my last set shot peened. Wonder if you could kill 2 birds with one stone there.
 
You may be right on the shot peening. Dumb me, when rechecking the rod bolts, I had missed that they have an Eagle stamped into the ARP #2000 bolts. So am thinking that they are Eagle rods.

The eagle rods do not use an off the shelf arp bolt and you cannot buy replacements from arp. Arp makes them custom for eagle and you can buy new bolts directly from eagle. FYI
 
The last place i would scrimp in a build is using used rods. To me that is an out and out no no.
On an Eagle rod i wouldn't even reuse the bolts. I would buy new.
By the time you do all that, good rods with new, unstretched bolts can be bought quite cheaply.

I agree on the rule of replacing the rod bolts, but if the rods had pistons on them and no obvious signs of hard treatment or damage, then a simple magnaflux crack test on them would be more economical than buying a new set. After they checked out fine there, if he wanted an even better set of rods than maybe even when they left the factory, he could send them to a place in Michigan called Monkey Wrench Racing who have a cryo facility and will do the rods for $75 or less. Read up on the cryo process for the still little-known process of metal stress relieving and metal grain re-aligning.

IMO, even with big name brands like Eagle and SCAT, they are still made in china - still made to a price and seem to be closely aligned with PCE (ProComp Electronics) who seem to make an identical rod under their own name for about 80% lower price.

Go tell the folks at Scat they are "closely aligned" with ProComp/Speedmaster. I see a cease and desist order in your future!

As far as using used rods every engine in the world is running on used parts.
