trunk lid skin - how attached?

I am working on a 69 Dart. I pulled the trunk lid to strip and epoxy this weekend. As I was stripping out the old seam sealer around the inside lip (had a bit of surface rust in spots, needed to media blast), I noticed that it appears that the skin was tacked on. I expected a spot weld, but it is held on with a teenie tinnie little tack weld at several places around the skin. Is that right? They dont look terribly strong, but if they are original, I wont mess with them.
 
They have held it together for 50 years...so I'd leave them alone, lol. Just dig out all of the old seam sealer all the way around the lip, blast it clean, epoxy prime it, and them re-apply new seam sealer. Let the seam sealer set up, and then paint it body color.
 
I thought the trunk skin was attaches to its structure by a rolled edge like a door skin and some dollops of adhesive between the two in the center area?
 
It is definitely rolled over the inner structure, but it also has these small welds all around the perimeter. I'll get some pictures tonight to share.

All clean, awaiting epoxy, which will happen tonight.
 
Now I'll have to look at mine.
Are they visable while painted?
 
Yep factory did it like that, seen many in the last 45 years of being a body man and replacing door skins.
Just a thought before you epoxy prime if your trunk lid is like my 73 Scamp you might want to coat the inside between the 2 skins with something because I know the factory didn't put enough corrosion protection in there. A bore scope will show you all the rust between the panels.
If you tape all the holes up and poor something like POR-15 or what ever you chose to use and coat the inside it will last longer by sealing up the rust.
Just my 2 cents.
 
I’m kinda running out of weather here in Northern Indiana. I can do the POR later, but today I need to do the epoxy. I did see the rust in there, particularly back at the hinge pockets

Yes Epoxy ASAP good call.
