Best compound to get rid of scratches

I have some marks on my roof. It looks like someone tried to wet sand a one square foot section without enough water in one spot and another smaller one.. I would like to try a compound to see if I can pull some of the scratches out. Something I can use by hand not with a buffer as I have never tried to use one and don't want to burn it worse than it is now.

You probably won't be able to get wet sand scratches out by hand. Using a buffer, it's fairly difficult to burn through on a flat panel like the roof. You get burn through on body lines, corners etc.

McGuires polishing compound works pretty good for things like that but it's going to take awhile by hand.
I just used it today with my buffer after some wet sanding to polish out the paint afterwards.
If you use a buffer flat on the surface you won't hurt anything.
It's when you use the edge of the buffer pad, or go over corners and edges with it is when you can burn through quick.

a fresh foam pad on an electric buffer would be easiest. Just don't lean heavily on the buffer, let just the weight of the buffer do the work. I strongly recommend Turtle Wax ICE products. They have a liquid ICE Speed Compound which should work well for you. They also have excellent wax in T/W ICE Spray Wax, and paint sealer in T/W Seal n Shine. They are all very reasonably priced, easy to use, and super effective.

thanks.. I have a slow orbital buffer that won't burn anything .. I have a bad shoulder that limits hard by hand buffing. I'll give the buffer a shot, like what was said, it's a flat area. Got to get a picture, I don't know what the hell they were doing.

I'm not going to recommend something that I know probably won't work. Not trying to waste people's money.

There's a lot that goes into something like this depending on how deep/bad the scratches are. The more aggressive the compound, the better it'll get the deep scratches out but then you'll need a less aggressive compound to get the scratches that the first compound put on. A buffer is needed on legit scratches. No amount of hand buffing will get scratches out past a certain point.
