Barracuda spare tire

Thought this might be helpful. I have a donut from a late model Crown Vic as a spare for my 1965 Barracuda. I chose this doughnut because of the 4 1/2 bolt pattern and that it does not protrude past the trunk floor.I needed a hold down to secure it and didn’t want to spend the money or wait for one on Ebay so I went to my Home Depot. I found this in the plumbing department. It turns out that it is held together with a 3/8 carriage bolt. It has a nice large wing nut and even a rubber washer that has a square cutout to fit the shank of the carriage bolt. It is the 3” model as there are different sizes. I bought a 5 inch carriage bolt and substituted it for the one that came with it. It cost less than $5.

Good to know. Great idea on the hold down thingy! How tall is the Crown Vic spare, and does the center hole of the whell fit Mopar disc brakes?

Good thing you 65 has 4 1/2" bolt circle.

Crap, now I don’t know about the front discs! It was years ago that I got the donut and I’m sure I researched the hell out of it not to mention actually tried it. I would think that it worked as the Crown has discs but I will confirm tomorrow. I will also measure the height of the tire but I can tell you it’s about 3/4 to 1” shy of being flush.

I used a 14x4.5 (5x4) wheel and a Firestone f560 155R14 tire
Firestone F560 Radial Tire | 155R14
Fits cause the wheel is a stock 67, tire is small in dia but would get you to safety. Also if you had to, you could do a two tire swap to keep same sized on the rear if you have Trac Lok etc

If you have the 4.5" bolt circle, the crown Victoria wheel will work no problem. The part thats tight is the center register hole in the rim fitting too snug on the mopar axles, or on the snout of a disc rotor. Easy fix, use a drum type rotary file on an air hi speed grinder and clearance that center hole a little bit till it fits.

I had the same space saver spare in my 67 fish back when I was running 5 on 4 to 5 on 4.5 wheel adapters.

So when I got home from work today I checked my space saver tire on the front desk’s and it fits absolutely no problem

If you have the 4.5" bolt circle, the crown Victoria wheel will work no problem. So I double checked my spare fitting the front discs and for whatever reason I didn’t have a problem with mine. It fit perfectly. My discs are the ‘73 and up swap.
