I don't have a deck bridge, however I did order one. The best I could measure so far, it was .010 below deck at TDC. Currently my plan is to build high compression with aluminum heads and a less aggressive cam in hopes to have good streetable power. I have nothing taken apart yet. Likely a winter project as I am still trying to get my current combo in the car sorted out.

No, I'm tits deep in snowmobiles to repair. I want to start working on this engine this spring. This winter I'll be doing a 2500 rpm convertor and a 4.10 geared 8 3/4. When I started this thread, I thought my motor in my car had been badly hurt, but it turns out not to be.

Now I am finally getting back to this engine build and I kinda got the wind let out of my sails. Turns out my pistons are .110 down, not .010 down like I originally thought. My access to measuring tools and expertise on how to use them is much better now that I work in a machine shop.
So now knowing that, I need to know what piston anyone would suggest to get me close to zero deck height. I used a machinist straight edge and the deck seems quite flat so I won't cut it unless.that is a necessity to achieve my goal.
Again, this is new territory to me but I really want to learn. The Blueprint 408 is very tempting but I have always wanted to build a performance motor so that is what I'm going to do!

take a deep breath and think how you want to drive it and how much
Piston and head choice go together and you need to change both then a cam that goes with your pistons and head
Measure twice cut once
you have an intake and carb- no reason to change now
if pistons and heads are not both in the budget stick the shortest lunati voodo in your short block and drive it for awhile
that MP cam is great with more compression, converter, headers, gears but not for U
but I would not want to drive it around much with street gears except for road racy type use
as far as heads go EQ iron or Edelbrock off E bay minimum
figure the cc's and use the dished or FT KB pistons to get the compression streetable
with that combination you can run the MP cam and see what else you have to change
changing everything at once and finding out you are wrong is no fun and expensive
you can always have the MP cam reground till you get close to what you need
I'd sent it to Jim at Racer Brown and ask him
It's not going to idle the way you want it
 
I already have Speedmaster cnc ported heads, and really the only thing else I need to buy is pistons and cam, lifters, springs because I have been collecting parts for a while. I really like the idea of that 10 ish to 1 compression and a milder cam. I believe I will reach out to Racer Brown when I get things sorted out with the pistons.

Congrats on forging forwards on doing it yourself a leg. It is very satisfying to build your own mills. I love doing as much as possible myself.

As far as pistons go, I have used the Federal Mougal H116CP Hyper slugs and the Hyper KB-107’s that get you close. The Fed-Mougal’s below. The KB’s are ever so slightly taller. I forget how much but it’s nothing if your milling the deck. .001 *I Think!*

You can (possibly) find good deals on the Fed-Mougals if you look carefully.

If these are to tall, Ol’Kimmer has the shorter height slugs that can possibly spec out right for you. Measure twice deck the block once!!!

these speedmasters are shaft rockers- right?

The Federal Mogul piston will save you some dough. They also require no special ring gaps.

most guys on this board do not do pro touring or what would you call your usage?

I wouldn't say it's pro touring, but more trying to get the best all around car it can be. I do drag race it when ever I can but I know it will never be a purpose built drag car! Currently the wheel and tire is definitely drag race (skinny front, 275/60-15 drag radial) but the suspension is set up for handling. I want to get 17 or 18" wheels and wider tires all around at some point since the plan is to build a sportsman class street/strip car in the very near future.

Yes, the Speedmasters are shaft mount rockers. Yes they are the ones pictured above.

I appreciate the part numbers from @70aarcuda , that's what I was really hoping for!

The Kb 107 need a larger ring gap on the top ring....just read the instructions...they are lighter and probably require balancing of the engine.
The H116CP use standard ring gap for the top ring...and are stock weight...so if used with a stock rod no balancing should be required...

The skirt coating is a nice extra on it.
 
with the FM you have to cut the block .015 to get to the same deck clearance
get tight quench one way or the other
those lighter pistons will let it rev like a magnum or Small block ford or chevy
big difference in piston weight is GOOD and worth balancing
or not
you do not feel lighter as much as heavier
 
What is involved in balancing a motor for lighter pistons? It's just my fear of the unknown here. The KB pistons are actually cheaper than the FMs on Summit right now.
