Hi,
I have a 440 and I have changed the engine oil dip stick to a Milodon 22070 (lost the one that come with it). Since fitting the engine to my 74 dart I have had to change the sump to a Charlie oil pan due to having an alterkation front end.
I have only just noticed the Milodon dip stick doesn't have any markings on it.
So how do I know how much oil to put in?
Is there anyone I can contact or should I order a different dip stick?

Thanks in advance

Below are links the the sump and my original post.

(74 dodge dart sump clearance)

I always put in what the pan manufacture says it holds and mark the dipstick. So in my 7 qaurt pan I put 7 in it and marked the dipstick which is at the add line on my Mr Gasket dipstick

Thanks guys.
Will try and get a hold of Charlie and see what they reckons

Cheers

they said it all depends on what the engine builder wants.
I would of thought no matter how big the sump is the fill mark would be the same?
Any other suggestions?

A deeper pan allows you to run the oil level lower. Benefits are less windage, less air being whipped into the oil and more hp .Example: If you have a stock shallow 4 quart pan, you better run 4 quarts in it. If you have a deep 7 quart pan, you can run 5 or 6 quarts in it and enjoy the benefits of the lower level while still having a greater volume of oil than stock.

In the end I just bought a stock 440 dip stick and fitted that.
Filled the engine to the full mark and swapped the Milodon dip stick back in and marked it where the oil was.

Haven't starter the engine yet, still a few weeks/ months away so fingers crossed.

Curious, when you filled to the full mark with the stock dip stick, did it come out to the pan capacity rating?

Charlie oil pans were very, very difficult do deal with and wouldn't tell me what the capacity rating is or even the size of the pan. Would not recommend buying a oil pan of them after my experience.

Measured the dimensions of the pan and it came out to 11odd qts
Ended up putting in 8.5L (9qts) and I think once I start it it will take an extra quart.

I am just running into situation myself. I have what looks like the stock oil fill dip stick but a big milodon pan.
Filling with oil to the proper spot on the dip stick ended up taking 8.5 quarts of oil but when I look up the oil pan on line, its only a 7 quart pan.
So what do you do, believe the stock dip stick, or stick to the oil pan capacity.
Surly all the oil you put into an engine does not exceed the actual oil pan height so based on that I'm only going to use 7 quarts of oil, plus a half quart for the oil filter and mark the stick accordingly.

I'd say just use the pan mfg. capacity and mark the stick for it. The characteristics between a stock and aftermarket pan could be dramatic. Extra oil added in the aftermarket may be a drawback or just a waste.

Its funny, because after really trying to figure out what pan i have, I'm more confused, lol.
Milodon pan, either a 30935 or 30936, I'm not sure.
You can see mine has 3 ribs like the 30936, but doesn't have the drop down tail piece.
Then the 30935 has 4 ribs, but no drop down tail part.
One is an 8 quart, the other is a 7.
Looking over measurements, mine is 8.5 inches from the block bolts to the bottom of the pan.
Neither of the other 2 are that, one is less, the other is more.
Pics are from the Milodon site.
Awesome..
