What am I looking at here? True 4 speed or overdrive unit?
I have to disagree with that not that it's not true in a real Overdrive but for goodness sakes don't let somebody just flipped the third fourth leave her over on an overdrive and tell you it's a regular for Speed..One shift lever up
The other one down
Post a clear photo of all the numbers on the flat pad at upper right as well as the tail shaft from the opposite side.
Honestly if he's sending you these vague pictures of numbers and not the whole transmission and the front of it and everything like that I would be leery...
I’m just looking for what it is. Is it an A Body? Is it an overdrive(unlikely) it’s a 3 hour drive and the guy got it in an estate sale he has no idea exactly what it is. I’ve been looking for one for my 4 speed swap and this one is cheap.Honestly if he's sending you these vague pictures of numbers and not the whole transmission and the front of it and everything like that I would be leery...

the aluminum ones are 26 spline output and the cast are 30 spline output.
The only time the aluminum was used was in light cars like the aspen/volare and Late A.
Any truck or van or 75 and 76 A/F were cast. So the vast majority of them out there are cast. Cast iron cases used 99129 part number which is the same number used on the earlier close ratio cases.
Every 75 and 76 OD I have ever had were cast iron. I was under the impression they only made cast iron in those years. I did have an aluminum unit but it was a 1978. So I would say they were cast.I thought the Plymouth Feather Duster and Dodge Dart Lite models all had an aluminum overdrive to save weight for better fuel mileage?
I just read:Every 75 and 76 OD I have ever had were cast iron. I was under the impression they only made cast iron in those years. I did have an aluminum unit but it was a 1978. So I would say they were cast.
We are here to educate! From Brewer's...…..
Extension housing casting number C-99126 for 1969-71 A-body transmissions with 30 spline output/307 bearing. Baked and shot blasted.
I put a 1968 A833 four speed guts in an alum. OD case. Had to mill bellhousing for larger front bearing and put new larger front bearing up front.....
