A999 as a street/strip trans.

Ok sorry I am missing something from your previous post. Are you saying that your trans was a lockup model and is still using the original lockup input shaft with a turbo action non lockup converter.
Yes, scroll down to the bottom of the TA link and you will see 26 spline non lockup converters.

Magnum Converters
for Chrysler "Magnum and 5.7 Hemi" Engines
These converters are all Non-Lock-up, even those which will fit Lock-up shafts.

Converter I'm currently using:
904/A500/42RH 26LU Non-Symmetrical 88-92 10" 19806ST

I believe the spline counts are different between a lockup and a non lockup shaft. They are different. For the 904 non lockup are 27, lockup are 26. Turbo actions description of the converter does not mention the converter working with a lockup shaft.
Did you build the trans yourself or someone else?
Built it myself. It has the low gear set and has the 5 plate front and heavy planetary gears you mentioned.

Very good info, thanks. For a street car this could be a better way to go. No trans mods except the lockup disable in the valve body.
For modest power I could see this as a good way to go.
The only draw backs I see to doing it this way is a lockup shaft is weaker than a non lockup shaft because it is hollow and you could not use a real race torque converter(limited selection), but for a street car these are not issues I suppose.

So, the guy I have been chasing for a month that "thinks" he has an A999 out of an '86 van finally gets back to me with a PK number.
4412465.
I cannot find that number ANYWHERE!!
the only numbers I can find with 441 are "industrial/marine" transmissions!!!
And they look to be 727's...
The only list of numbers I have is the one in the SA design TorqueFlite book.
Anyone in here recognize this number?
Or am I doomed to drive an hour to find out its not what i want?

Motorpirate, I went back through more numbers I did not publish and can't find any car/truck applications with that number or hardly any that are even close. However, there are clearly other numbers than the ones I had data and access to since publishing the book 1.5 years ago. I have found a couple more that needed added to the list. Sorry for no more help.

So, I texted "Ricky" back last night and told him I didn't think that number was good and he offered to look again.
I think we have struck "cheapskate gold!!"

"93 998 3.9, Hi Stall converter, Electronic Lock Up, HD Extension!!
Thinking we will throw an overhaul/shift kit at it and try it with the lockup High stall before spending money on a different converter.
I have learned much on this site about how to defeat the hydraulic controlled lockup, surely the electronic is as simple as not hooking it up.
or, can it be run with a switch?
Thanks so much for looking Tom, Your book has been invaluable!!

So a quick outer inspection shows a VSS instead of speedo drive, but when removed it is driven by a gear so I think that is a direct swap.
The HD extension housing has many ribs on it that may interfere with my early A trans tunnel.
And as it is much newer ('93) and for a truck, it has no tab for the floor shift shaft lower support bushing.
So, has anyone else made a different mount for the lower bushing?
And are all A904/A998/A999 tailhousings interchangable?

You can swap another 904 tail shaft on it. I run the ribbed style you have with a cable shift in my 67.

So I have the trans totally apart and dont see anything wrong with it except a few hot spots on a couple of plates.
Guess I will call A&A for an overhaul kit and get it back together.
And, is that a bolt in sprag I see??

afaik the overrunning clutch is riveted in 904`s. The part attached with screws from the backside of the housing is called output shaft support if i remember correctly.

That's why I posted the pictures. there are no rivets and the bolts thread into the sprag.
